The only way to do it is cold turkey

its only REALLY hard the first 2-3 weeks

I'm not even at a full 5 months yet and I have 0 cravings. I'll admit I still like the smell of smoke but I've let my GF smoke in my car, have gone out clubbing/drinking, been offered smokes, went through my best friends stag, etc. without even a single drag.

well I almost caved last night.. stressful day, stressful night.... but I didn't... although I thought of ways to justify having one, but they didn't really make sense... did you guys cold turkey flat from your regular amount of smokes a day? or did you gradually smoke less and less, to eventually cold turkey?

Cold turkey works best if you've got a lotta things to occupy your time

Gradually works, but requires a lotta dedication to taking your intake down each week

I found that whenever I tried to cut down gradually it would just lead to me smoking a pack a day again.

Cutting down gradually always leaves more room for error and for more cravings.

maybe that's why it's been so difficult.. there's a lot of "down time" in my industry... no set hours for breaks and stuff make it good so it's not 100% habtiual as far as timed (ie. every day I have a smoke break at 10:30AM)... but when there's "nothing" to do ... it's super tough

Ed, quitting smoking is really not that hard, and to do it gradually is honestly, for quitters who cannot carry it through.

It is all excuses. Learn to control your own mind is what is important. If you need something to occupy your free time, visit the Insult Thread.

When I quit smoking a few years back I did it cold turkey. But last fall I picked it back up again. I was out fishing and it was going on its 7th or 8th hour and after watching all my friends smoke cigarette after cigarette I decided to have one.. then it was all downhill after that. Now I'm noticing when I smoke I'm really dreading the taste and I find it hard to finish one. I think it's time to quit again.
