no cell phones - go to hell
who here turns off their cell phone in the doctor's office, airplanes or anywhere else that makes this stupid request?
i don't.
i actually play games on mine... they even wanted it off at the blood lab.. i went today for annual bloodwork (hey, your taxes pay for it) and they wanted it off.... yeah right...
the only time i've had people complain was during my university graduation while i was on stage and text messaging.. some woman complained 3 or 4 times then gave up on me.
i think it's ridiculous.. the pacemaker thing.. you have to be within 2" of someone to cause any harm.. if someone is that close to me... i'm going to punch them or kiss them anyway.. .so what's the point?
and the airplane thing is casual also, it won't cause any disruption whatsoever to the plane and anything on it.

i agree
if it was of any real concern on an airplane, they would search you for it and confiscate it for the duration of the flight, otherwise terrorists could simply bring the plane down without the whole bomb/violence thing

I never turn off my phone anywhere either, I'll set it to vibrate or silent at most.
Hell even in the ICU when my ex's mom was there, I was talking on my cellphone VERY close to all of the equipment and nothing happened.
I don't care much for those rules either.

as for hospitals, it can affect some of the equipment. but I think they mostly want you to turn them off, or to mute out of respect of other people.

the new ones it has to be very close, as you said 2-4 inchs or so. but when I had my first one 10-12 inchs could mess it up. save as standing new a microwave could mess it up.. (<-- the old ones).
the new ones takes alot to mess it up.. putting a cell right on it.. or being by a welder, the things at air ports you walk through.

I always turn it off. It's just simple courtesy. If someone asks you to do something you do it out of respect, not just because you are afraid that the plane will fall out of the sky or that you will kill someone at the hospital.
That's just my two Cents.

I agree, I throw mine on flight mode just so it won't disrupt people around me in certain situations... Its not as if I'll be dying to answer a call at 30 000 ft

if its requested that the cell phone be off, i take for granted that it's for a good reason, so off it goes.

honestly why are some of you so ignorant to the fact of turning of your phone?? not only can it actually screw things up (Kracker already proved you wrong once) but it shows disrespect for those around you. Not turning it off at a garduation, are you kidding me? that is a very iimportant part of many peoples lives and they have to hear your phone ring becuase someone wants to talk to you probably about jack ****! is it honesty that hard to turn it off... do you think you are going to miss everything? I dont understand why you think you are better than everyone else? The chances of it screwing up the instruments on an airplane are very small, but why should you be the one to take a chance on everyones life on the plane.
As for the doctors office and everywhere like that, I dont understand why you cant just put your phone on viberate or silent mode, that way no one gets bothered and you still see who is calling you?

its funny how nowadays people would rather have a conversation through an electrical box tied to their ear or through a stupid computer than face to face... I just think it shows poor people skills (funny how this is said through a post haha... irony)
