Thanks for all your comments guys, I agree with what you guys are saying. I'm pretty happy with the way things are working out, but man it's been a heck of a 24 hours.
On our way back from getting a rental today (which I couldn't drive b/c I'm not 21 yet ) my step-dad's truck got a flat tire. Then, b/c we had to get the tire fixed I was running late for class so I parked on the side of the street where there is 2hr parking, but didn't notice I was on teh wrong side of the pole which points to which side you can park on! So I got a $30 ticket, ERR. Rough day, lol, but things could be worse .
I didn't know this was an option. If they gave me a cheque that was at least $5500 (I payed $6000) I would still be able to keep the car?? I can't see why they would do that. But if they did, I would definitely part it out and make some cash so I can buy a newer civic

Is the B-pillar bent? Other wise it is only the door, fender and rear quarter?
You always have the choice of getting the reinbursement as a cheque and go fix the car yourself. Get an used fender and door for cheap (and if black, bonus!), and get the rear quarter fixed.
That should still give you some money left. If the car is a write off, keep it, get the cheque and part out the vehicle, or use the cheque to fix the car as I have suggested above.
Either way, you should have surplus money left as long as the cheque is in your hand, I believe.

If it is a write off, you get a cheque (say 100 bucks) and they take the car away and sell it to a wrecker, or whatever. Now, if you keep the car, maybe they give you 80 bucks and you deal with the car on your own.
I believe that's how things work.

hmm suprised noone mentioned this, or maybe i missed it, but since it happened in your driveway, wouldnt home-owners insurance cover it? either way, it sucks, hope u get it fixed and sorted out, accidents are the worst, i had one roughly just over a month ago, rear ended a van, 2100 dammage to them, didnt get mine quoted but fixed it for 75 myself. i offered to fix theres, they called the cops, i didnt get charged, went thru there insurance company, mine said not to worry, even tho i'm at fault and didnt make a claim, mine wont go up.

I think Home owners insurance only covers the property and not vehicles on the property.. that said you never want to have to make a claim through home owners insurance. My Father had to make 2 legit claims in a year and when it came tiume to renew no one would insure the home

Wait a sec guys, I said the car is covered, so there is no worry about that...
100 bucks? hmmm? The scenario they said was that if it's a writeoff, they would give me an amount that the car could sell for. So if this is the case, so I still keep the car, or do they keep it?
