obama and cuba

Castro wants more from Obama on Cuba - CNN.com

i find american politicians hilarious

The Castro "dictatorship is one of the most brutal in the world. The U.S. economic embargo must remain in place until tyranny gives way to freedom and democracy," Rep. Connie Mack, R-Florida, said in a written statement.

US trading partners are far more oppressive and brutal than fidel ever was.

Saudi Arabia and China make Cuba look like a playground.

wasn't it only recently that they allowed Cuban's to have internet?

Also, I think real estate sales are still illegal.

I'm happy to provide sources for anything, but don't expect me to write a 12 page essay. I have to find references. Been to cuba a few times and I hang out with locals and talk to them like real people everywhere I go.

Cuba has gone to great lengths to ensure children are not sex-exploited by foreigners in countries such as Thailand, African countries, or middle eastern countries.

----

4 references - hopefully enough? I would prefer to provide you a link to the cuban government's travel website, but their 'english' site is under construction.

1. Travel Report for Cuba

Articles prohibited from entry into Cuba include drugs, explosives, pornographic material, literature considered subversive, perishable food items, radio transmission equipment, wireless microphones, radio and TV receivers differing from household model, GPS devices, satellite receiver antennas and stations, air conditioners and small appliances that draw heavily on electricity.

2. Cuba travel guide - Wikitravel

Drug laws can be draconian and their implementation unpredictable. The same may be said about the laws concerning prostitution. The importation, possession or production of pornography is strictly prohibited. It is not uncommon to see a dog jogging on the luggage carousel sniffing arriving luggage, especially when arriving from countries prone to drug-trafficking, so be sure to lock and/or wrap your luggage to avoid any problems in this regard.

3. Cuba-Junky | Crime in Cuba

Pornography & Sex
Pornographic material is against the law. Taking pictures of naked Cubana(o)'s constitutes pornography. Get the idea? The legal age of consent in Cuba is sixteen between Cubans, not Cubans with foreigners. 18 is the legal age of consent for tourists. Technically, US citizens can be prosecuted by the US government for having sex with minors even outside US. If that, along with your conscience, isn't enough to deter you consider this: In the US, pedophiles are typically separated from the general prison population to protect them from other prisoners. In Cuba, to the best of my knowledge, no such precautionary measures exist.

4. Donate and help Cubans survive the U.S. blockade | Cuba Education Tours

DO NOT BRING THESE ITEMS TO CUBA Food items or seeds Outdated history or science books Expired medicine or vitamins
Old or non-functioning computers Items considered to be weapons
Anti-Cuba literature, pornography

Cuban's typically only had internet access in school and jobs that require it. I don't know whether or not the issue is the capability of them to access it. Resorts for tourists have really bad internet access, you expect poor Cubans to have computers and high speed modems in their home?

Remember, marijuana can land you in jail here, but cops usually will not do anything (at worst I think nowadays they confiscate it to smoke for themselves or their buddies. I haven't been in Cuba since Fidel stepped down, but a lot of Cuban's I met had cell phones

As far as I know housing sucks in Cuba. You can trade houses outright, but you cannot buy or sell your house for money. you can't add a car into the deal either. if the government finds out, they get involved and they aren't so nice about it.

Just to add

Canadian Travel Advisory Saudi Arabia

Illegal and/or Restricted Activities

Religious proselytizing is not permitted.

Common-law relationships, homosexual relations, adultery, and prostitution are illegal and are subject to severe punishment, including the death penalty.

In public, physical contact (e. g. holding hands) should be avoided.

Dancing, music, and movies are prohibited.

The importation, use, or possession of any item that is held to be contrary to the tenets of Islam is also prohibited, such as pornographic materials and weapons.

Imported and domestic audiovisual media and reading materials are censored.

Penalties for the import, manufacture, possession, and consumption of alcohol, pork, illegal drugs or products containing their ingredients are severe. Saudi authorities practise zero tolerance and make no distinction with respect to soft or hard drugs, and using or trafficking. Drug offenders are regularly sentenced to death.

It is forbidden to photograph official buildings (government, military institutions, etc.) and holy sites. People should not be photographed without their permission.

ah, but you if it's not open on all 3, why even mention it.

i'll give you the housing one, but the internet one doesn't work when it's restricted for the other two.

I like the way they hitch hike in cuba

they use hand signals to let people know where they're trying to go

for example, motioning that you're puffing on a cigar means that you need a ride to havana

i'm saying all three are pretty bad. but saudi has oil which we need, so we tolerate it. china meets our consumption needs for cheap, so we tolerate them too. what's cuba got to offer?

honestly, i wish we were more hardcore like saudi. the way they prohibit music, holding hands, alcohol, etc.... we should mandate it... everyone in this country MUST drink at least once per month (except pregnant women for the duration of their term), everyone must go topless at least once per year, and so on. it'd be awesome

yes, but they have sanctions on cuba and pretend to take some sort of high road based on the actions of the cuban government meanwhile they turn a blind eye to anyone that really matters.

cuba is not an evil empire. why treat it as such?
