Having been in graphic design, all i can say LOL!
The design looks...ok...at best. I can see they wanted to make the trill look more techy for the new age but meh, I would've left it the same old shape and just add some minor elements and perhaps a 2 tone color change at most.
Price tag? Of course too much, willing to bet it took the hired designed firm about a week at most to come up with that logo(plus 30 other mockups) , that includes sending it to be approved.
Really, anyone who has beginner skills in vector art could create that in Illustrator in under 3 hours, at most.

well its a big waste of tax dollars, and they are only changing it to look more like the liberal symbol for a reason.. hrmmm..

Evidently our ridiculous government is at it again. I don’t understand why everyone feels the need to change everything. Has anyone heard of history? Leave the logo alone and create a history for it. I’m sure our descendants will appreciate that when they can look back and say the Ontario logo has been around for over 200 years. We don’t change our flags, so why is the question?
However, can I really be surprised by anything the Canadian government or provincial governments do anymore considering a few years ago the lyrics to the national anthem were up for debate. Absolutely ridiculous!
I wonder how much they paid for this dreadful creation? Probably some absurd amount like when they created that new travel and tourism logo for Toronto. If I’m not mistaken it was around 15 million. What a waste of money.
