Unhappy

When it comes to employment losses like that, it would seem that the negative ripple effect would touch many in the community itself and beyond.
I feel badly for the families of the workers.

well it's not like the rolled out of bed to find they had no jobs this morning....they all knew about this for months and ones with enough seniority were moved to the car plant.

the crappy part is if you were under that seniority level (which I heard was around 24 years) you were looking for work.

^thats what i am saying, everyone is saying they have to meet the competition rates, but these labor workers dont think that it is wise to take the cut rather then lose the job all together.

they think their stupid union will protect, when company goes bankrupt kiss everything good bye.

The government already said, if they go completely bankrupt, there goes all the Pentions. Anyone else not under stand why they wouldn't want a pay cut? Last takes I heard the CAU came to a $7/hour pay cut agreement with GM. Then the Government told GM that wasn't good enough. That's the last I heard.

Pay Cut = $25/h pay
Job less = $0/h Pay

Another digusting rumour, is that if these ppl collect UI, they get it at a HIGHER rate/% than say you or I if we lose our jobs!? WTF is that? An assembly worker is a specialty worker now, while Police services ain't SHI7?

I've talked to a guy with many years into GM, 22 or so, when I worked at a Casino Security. He said GM offered him the 'Golden Handshake' $75 000 a check, a free vehicle, and a pention for his early retirement. He turned it down. A Few months later I ran into the same fellow, and guess what!? He got laid off!?

I do feel bad for those families that's main source of income is gone. However, those are the people that should be standing up to their Union saying.. whoa, we need to smartin' up. Let take anything GM is offering, because it will only get better with time, or look for another job while still getting paid, incase tis happens again.

OFF TOPIC:
For those phukers with the "Out of a Job Yet, Keep Buying Foreign" I laugh. I drive a Civic (proudly) and a lot of civics out there ARE made in Canada, and further more, Ontario! Not to mentions the Engine Plant opening in the States while GM is shutting down. Here's a few new slogans to be printed:
"Out of a Job Yet? Start Building Imports!"
"Out of a Job Yet? Doesn't Cost $40/h to install Screws!"
"Out of a Job Yet? Move to Mexico and Build Domestic!"
