It was a scene that would've brought Homer Simpson to tears, as a beer truck rolled over on Highway 401, spilling suds everywhere.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:30am Wednesday, when the Molson big rig collided with a Honda Civic and overturned on the eastbound core lanes near Highway 400 at the basketweave – one of the busiest sections of the highway. Traffic in the area was backed up through the morning rush hour.
The 19-year-old Mississauga woman driving the Civic has been charged with careless driving, after she apparently swerved from her lane into the tractor-trailer, which then slammed into the cement guardrails and flipped.
More than 2000 cases spilled out all over the road into the lanes – and the beer company has since written off the entire load.
The cleanup ran into the afternoon. A bulldozer cleared away the beer, and sand was poured on the road to absorb the booze.
Amazingly, no one was seriously injured in the crash. The female Civic driver was trapped for some time in her vehicle – which was almost completely demolished.
Emergency crews, including an air ambulance, arrived on scene, rescued her from inside the crunched car, and brought her to hospital. The driver of the rig wasn't seriously hurt.
O.P.P. Sgt. Cam Woolley said the injuries could have been much worse. Luckily the driver was wearing her seat belt - it may have saved her life.
“That car is just a mangled ball of metal but the young lady driving was wearing her seat belt. The car did its job, it absorbed energy and it got crushed. If she wasn't wearing it, she would have been thrown out. She would have been crushed for sure, certainly ejected,” he said, adding a message to all motorists to buckle up.
“We lose 200 people every year in Ontario (who don’t wear their seatbelts). That's something easy we can all do, regardless of whatever causes the collision, we can keep ourselves and our kids safe.”

 What a tragedy! Forget about bringing Homer Simpson to tears, I don't like beer half as much as he does and I still think that it's a tragedy! I am going to get a beer right now to mourn the loss of the beer!
