Paypal help.
i signed up with paypal a while ago but never used it until a person sent me some money.
was 160 dollars and it said fee for 5.14 and the balance was 154 and change. can someone explain this to me how it works?
they charge you if you send money and recieve money?
and if so is it percentage wise or flat fee?
seems like the biggest scam ever because 5 bucks for 160 dollars to be transfered into my account seems excessive.
i just dont want more money to be transfered into my paypal account if it will be expensive.
any info is appreciated.

^ paypal fees are BS
sending money is always free, no fees
for receiving, i forgot how much but theres some fee like 3%
for money transfer within canada, always use email money transfer or i think theres some other type you can do with the bank
from/to US, paypal, i think, is most convenient.

Rukus...the fees is high and thats frustrating. The positive side that it is one of the most trusted source online and most of all ebay works on it.
like harsh said...there is no fee to send money...but there is quiet a bit when you receive. moreover, in canada....they will charge you i guess $0.5 to deposit it back into you checking account if your total amount is less than $150.
bottom line...if you are a seller...it is the most trusted and widely accept way to get payment.

i believe the fee is 3%. I just recently sent a payment deposit to proparts and got tacked on another $13.80 (that proparts gets charged for receiving money)
sending money is free
i thought paypal was pretty good but now after using it i find it's unfair (especially in the exchange rates!! we ARE getting screwed by these guys) and the high fees.

you said it right about the exchange rate stock94. the rates are crazy....but that is always the case if you are using a non-banking channel to transmit funds.
Some sellers accept Western Union and their rates and fees are high also. I recently sent some money to a relative in US...the exchange rate and fees totaled 30% of the amount that i sent but they money was there in less than one hour.

PayPal is awesome, the fee's are harsh but if you use them alot and have been with them for a while then they will rework the fee structure..I have been using then for 4 years now and have atleast $2,000/month go through them and dont see much loss now in fee's..
Now if only the american dollar would go back to normal since I get all my pay in USD.

I should just start my own online "bank"...0.5% fee

Hey Jay, try to keep info about your own financial info at a minimum at Paypal. There have been many stories where a chargeback or simply a "suspicion" that your account contains flawed money will bring your account balance to $0. I believe they also has the power to withdraw money from your CC or bank account if the balance is negative.
