Places to Rent
Currenly Sharon and I are looking for a temp place to rent... options are:
condo
basement apartment
apartment
requirements that must be met:
2 parking spots
on site laundry
2 ways to exit in case of fire (more relevante for basements)
has to be in Mississauga
Budget is the cheaper the better.. meaning anything below $1100-$1200. We're taking a look at a basement today, but we're (at least I'm not) 100% sure what to look for when it comes to renting places... at the most it'll be a year and a bit so nothing too extravagent, but also nothing in the ghetto... are there specific websites that we can checkout online and get ideas before heading out to see in person? is it better to get a broker etc... etc... ? what are the main things that we should look for when it comes to searching for a place? any help would be greatly appreciated!

www.viewit.ca is a fairly good site and you can narrow your searches in there. Also for apartment buildings, try searching the building name in Google for more info and floor plans etc. ( Ie: Minto Management)
-Be careful when looking for basement apartments, many contain mold that goes unseen. Look for ones that have been recently renovated and do not have carpeted floors.
-Your price range seems on target for the area and for a 1 bedroom - but size may not be as you were hoping.
-2 parking spaces will be your hardest thing to fulfill unless you do go to an apartment building and pay for the extra spot.
-Try to find somewhere that includes utilities (I think this one is obvious).
-Most places will require a 12 or 18 month lease anyways! Most will require first and last month's rent up front. And some may want references.
-A condo will definitely raise the price point a bit.
-A nice landlord will help you with anything you may need - but this may be hard to find!
Good luck in your search! I am currently doing the same!
Hope this helps!
