Portable Media Players

Portable Media Players
Okay, I'm in the market for a portable media/mp3 player in preperation for my trip to australia. I'm looking at the 30gb iPod video and the iriver pmc120 20gb player...both are roughly the same price give or take 50-75bucks
does anybody have any experience with the iriver products? its windows media player based, has a 3.5" screen (NICE!!!) and 20gb hdd. I like the screen size but I'm not too sure if I want the WMP as the base operating system. I'm not too sure of the actual "in hand" size of it but it looks kinda bulky. and it being windows based, I dunno if my ibook is gonna like it
then there is the ever so popular iPod...we all know this unit and its trendy appeal and ease of use and accessory market...but the screen is small, horrid battery life for video playback (not gonna use it much for that anyways)...I know its gonna work on my ibook, my pc and all inbetween
my main uses for the device will be picture storage from my digi cam and also music storage and listening (24hr flight, gotta have something to do)...it would be nice to be able to go through my photos on a 3.5" screen aswell as watch tv/movie etc on it.
anybody have any input or anything to help a brotha out?

Im not sure if you're just looking for a media player...but i just bought the Palm T/X with a 2gb card. I've got a bunch of divx movies on there and mp3's. Nice big screen in landscape mode, wi-fi, bluetooth, office apps...etc.
I got it for $299 Cad in the states. Cheaper than the iPOD and iRiver, with a lot more functionality...it can do way more than those 2 combined.
The only downside is u have to buy SD cards to add media to it. I got 1 2gb card and that is good for like 6 movies. The cards are pretty cheap nowadays...i got mine for $60
good luck with the search

2gb at a time is nowhere near the capacity I need...my jungle collection is 30gb itself not to mention 2gb is what my camera uses itself and trust me, I take alot of pictures!
swapping and losing cards is not my kinda deal...I think I'm gettin an iPod today...follow the crowd, people must like it for a reason

everybody has an ipod and it really aint that great.

most other brands dont seem to be mac compatible, which I need since the ibook is coming with me to the land down unda...and I guess the ipod's simplicity is why its such a hit. no buttons and all that extra stuff

get the top end archos. it is sic.
runs embedded linux. you can install whatever codecs you want, use internet, and runs tons of linux apps. movies and mp3s are just a bonus.
my friend runs a packet sniffer for wireless networks and tries to get in wherever he can for fun.

the ipod is decent.....but it should have really been called the "ipod with video" not the video ipod, because video is clearly not one of its primary functions (small screen, weak battery life).....but overall the ipods are pretty good devices, reliable and well built

it is called ipod with video or more even so its just called the "iPod" now, they have the nano, shuffle and iPod
itunes is perhaps the worst piece of software ever made...its so stupid cuz it tries to be so smart

now that I know u can drag and drop from your folders on your computer into itunes where your ipod is I dont have huge hate for it...I hated it when I thought you had to import your library to itunes which was mad ghey...I also hate how quicktime decides its gonna take over all your media duties and then u have to go in there and set that ish straight
