Question Is this possible? 1999-999-9999?

Check my call display today and saw the following number:

1-999-999-9999!

What the heck is that? Isn't that all 9s are restricted number?
It doesn't look like toll-free number to me...

Is it somebody called from outer space?

Is there a way to do reverse lookup of this number?
I am just curious who the hack is that.

hell it's possible to have anything come up when someone calls.

however as far as I recall the 999 NPA hasn't been implemented yet. but that doesn't mean you can't get calls that display that number

Something strange there...
Did some search in Google, using that # as the keyword and giving me the following URL

Scam or something?

Household Finance Corp ripoff! Harrassment! Frederick Maryland

Company
Household Finance Corp
Address:
1306 W Patrick Street, Golden Mile Marketplace, Suite 6
Frederick Maryland 21072
U.S.A.
Phone Number:
301-553-8327
Fax:

Recently, my husband and I had some unexpected medical bills and fell behind (one payment) on our HFC loan. We owe 2000.00 on the loan. When the paymnet became one day late, HFC customer service (collections) started harrassing us.

Everyday, they have been phoning us starting at 8:35 A.M. in the morning and practically every hour after that. They also have resorted to using a phony number that appears on our caller ID. The number is 1-999-999-9999. Here is a typical log of their phone calls:

2/13/04 11:04 AM 19999999999 1 min
2/13/04 10:11 AM 19999999999 1 min
2/13/04 9:29 AM 19999999999 1 min
2/13/04 8:43 AM 19999999999 1 min.

And this is only representantive of today the 13th of February. All of the other days, it starts at 8:35 A.M and continues until 9 P.M. sometimes 9:35 P.M.!
Is this legal?

Agreed...look like something similar to the idea of NAT in the networking world.

it's easier then that. in telecom if you have a PBX and are using ANI via the old MF trunks you can configure it to send out phony ANI numbers. if your using something with the newer SS7 ISUP trunks on it. it's still configable most PBXs allow that sort of configuration the reason why is most companies have hotlines they want you to call and some they have it show a standard hotline number.

My house's phone has a block on people calling with hidden numbers and to complete the call you must enter your phone number. Some automated things use 999 999 9999 and it gets through ...
