q about airbags

rear ended the crap out of some guy last night, his right rear tire was sitting on my engine, yep thats right he completely mouted the hood of my car, which folded in half. Pretty sure it's a goner

the crazy thing is that the airbags didnt' go off? wonder what thats all about, my srs light works so it makes me wonder? anyone know why they wouldn't deploy? i was only going 40-55ish not really sure, but under the speed limit

airbags get activated by a g-force senseor, it has to be a shock

i rear ended soemone too back in the day and went under them, ruined the whole front and and the airbags never went off either.

you dont want them going off unnecessairly, so it does take a pretty good shock to activate them

Are you ok? If so, then it's probably a good thing they didn't go off.

Someone backed into my front end a couple of years ago pretty hard. Over $2,000 damage. My airbags didn't deploy either. The funny thing is, I didn't even think about it until way after the car was repaired.

there has to be 2 sensors to go off one in the car cabin (g force sensor) and one on the outside (crash sensor) for the air bags to deploy

guess you got lucky and it didnt mess with the g force sensor in the car

isn't it the silver pipe that runs across the rad (in most civics) that sets off the airbags? a small pipe thats pressurized that when comprimized sets them off?

Just a few weeks ago my old man was hit by a fella in the driverside door and broke his arm, the airbags didn't go off...he was driving a sebring, and it was written off. ****ty part was the guy hit who him was able to drive away, and did so...

on another occasion, 2 years back i was in my friends civic and a truck infront of us with a large trailor hitch rolled back on a hill into us, the airbags went off and there was only a few scratches on the bumper and a small gouge on the licence plate. the grill where the hitch went through didn't fair so well and the rad was bent along with that pipe... he was happy lemme tell you

that holds true only on the 01 and after models the previous years it was completely different. 1 sensor could set it off.

the speed you where going at was enough and also the impact type wasnt enough to set off the airbag.
your car basically went under the other car so the sensor wasnt touched.
