1. apparently easy if you use common sense, and maybe read through the book.
2. Somewhat
3. You should if you want to guarantee yourself to pass the first time.
4. OK

Two of my buddies got their M1 + M2 in the last 6 months.
One of them didn't bother reading the book, and passed on his 3rd try.
The other spend the $10, and the 1.5 hours to buy and read it, and passed the first time.

I would personally buy the book and read it? Whats the problem, are you illiterate? Or just lazy?
Don't go for your M1- let alone buy a bike, until you read the book IMO.

My parents think a motorcycle is too dangerous in Toronto with all the crazy drivers out there...

so they really don't want me riding a bike..

Probably wouldn't hurt you to read the book before taking the test. Maybe to some people it's all common sense, but you never know, you may even learn something new and important along the way!

SpikeyLee - Thats right man, I'm with you on that 100%.

As for insurance prices- for a starter bike (under 600 or 500cc ) insurnce is about $1500 a year!

Cheap as hell if you ask me.
