Question about Career choices and Moves!

hey guys,

well i thought id start off by saying that i am currently working as a Machinist out in Brantford. Ive been with this company for 8 years and currently running a highspeed milling centre.

now the thing is, this was my first job, been here since 17 doing my apprenticeship throughout highschool...

now to cut to the chase, my shifts were 4 10's mon - thurs. OT on fridays optional if busy.

we havent been profitable in 5 years, no cost of living raise, no nothing...

they recently broke news that we are going to normal 9 hrs shifts, no paid lunch. about 2 months ago were forced to cut backour hours from 40 to 36, and work 3 12's which didnt workout to well b/c we were not getting anything done.. and there would be no overlap to pass on information to the offshift guys!!!

now my question is, have you ever left a company to find better opportunity somewhere else???? or a place thatmight actually give a damn about there employee's?

and were u nervous about leaving your company to move on???
the only thing that makes my company worth working for is the people i work with...

reason i ask... maybe its time for me to move on???

your thoughts... on yourself and how you dealth with it if you have or not!

try looking for a new job, even if its in another field. If you cant find anything here go to alberta, i can give you the name and number of the place that is always hiring there

Mark where abouts in brantford are you?

I can give you a bunch of names to places that we deal with. We distribute cutting tools (cnc, collets, magic drills, etc etc). I agree, its time to start looking for a new job while you are still working at this one though. It always looks better that way.

Let me know,

The majority of people go through something like 3 career changes in their lifetime. Sometimes it is for the better. It is definitley a big step but ya just got to do it. Looking for a better job while you are still employed is a very good idea! Good luck Mark!

Another vote for career change.. if more people changed jobs when the job was no longer to their liking, the world would be a much better place. less grumpy angry people commuting to and from work, and to deal with in general!

i changed jobs recently, and it's working out well. just put thought and research into it, be careful, but don't worry too much. don't second guess yourself into missing a great opportunity!

Dont be afraid to quit. I just quit my old job about 2 weeks ago. Why? Because a better oppertunity came along. I was nervous because I had made friends at my old workplace, and I was somewhat relied on, but in the end, it is my life, and I need to move on to bigger and better things.
So I politely resigned, because I never burn bridges, and now I'm doing my own thing and I couldn't be happier.
Good luck.
