Digital photo question (updated need help)

My collection of digital photos is quickly growing and I'd like to start saving them to disc instead of taking up space on my hard drive.

I was wondering what would be the best type of discs to use. CD-R, CD-RW, or anything else.

You could save the to CD-R but just have to remember the CDR 's have a limitted lifespan. Depending on the size you could just open up a G-mail account and save the pictures there. Or if you are looking to store then long term then tape drives last the longest.

But for costs and ease of use just burn them to a CDR .. no point in wasting a CDRW if you plan on keeping the pictures on disc for awhile.

DVD's are 4.7 gigs, CD's are 700 megs.

Youd need a DVD burner for the DVD's, and a DVD player to view them.

I would suggest CD's because anyone can view them, or invest in an external hard drive. (I got an external, and its great for storage and backup)

You can fit quite a large amount on CD's, depending on how large each pic is. Most pics will be around a meg or so.

external harddrive would definitly be a good idea, but they are more costly than other mediums...

i know at current I have over 10gb of photos...I would rather have them on 2-3 dvd rather than 5-7 cds...plus blank dvds and dvd burners are cheaper or the same as their cd counterparts

Ok so last night I treid to use the discs. The problem is that I have no idea how to save them to the discs. Do I use Mediaplayer or something to do it or do I need photo editing software.

Help?!

if your just trying to save them to disk, windows XP has some software built in that will allow you to do it fairly well...

I'm not using XP right now. But off the top of my head here's what you do. Open MyComputer and open the folder where you have all your files then drag the files onto the CD Burner drive. Right click on the CD Burner drive and there should be an option that says write these files to CD.

Most CD burners come with a software called Nero that is a user friendly program to burn CDs. I find it much better then the one that comes with XP
