quitting job! i signed a 1 month notice
hey you guys..so i'm quitting my job, but i signed a contract saying i will give them 1 month notice. can i just give them two?or none at all?
i know its proper etiquette to honor my contract but 1 month is way too long?can anything happen to me if i don't give my 1 month notice?

breach of contract? they could go after you for any business they lose because you didn't give the 1 month notice in the contract for them to have time to try and find someone to replace you? probably won't happen though. but why not just stick to the terms of your contract to avoid the hassle?

my situation is ****..i work 830-530 daily. not time to go for interviews or anything. i work for a small company and i am the only accountant here. its tough to take days/hours off...and when i go for interviews..they all assume its 2 week notices..so i can't look for another job until i leave this place...

go back and read your contract... I mean really read it and see if there is any way you can get out. Legally they kind of have you but I doubt they would do anything unless you are a major player in the company. The best way to find is to have a mature discussion with HR or whoever it is you go to for that.

I didn't say anything.
I walked into the presidents office with a letter of resignation, handed him the letter, sat down, he read, and he lead the convo.
much easier.
2 weeks later i was gone.

No.
If you have that contract, then give him the letter of resignation with a date 1 month later from that date, in brackets, put negotiable.
Then at the bottom, have an area where you both sign with the last day of your work.
You know what I mean?

well, this is the thing, if you talk to them professionally and tell them you want to advance your career, and the one month leave of absence is too long, you can hope they let you have two.
at this point, you better be sure you're finding a job soon.
you won't be burning any bridges.
otherwise, find the job, give the one month notice, and show up to work drunk as ****. or get drunk at lunch every day.
i'm sure there is nothing in your contract about drinking on the job.
what are they gonna do? fire you?
just don't expect any references unless you're friends with someone there.
