hey nice question dude, im pretty much in the same boat as you. im in the busness field and my sis wasn't sure so i was told that for people in business related fields like economics and such will not benefit from mac applications, because everyday businesses use microsoft applications, so yea i guess it all depends on what field you are in or what you need it for.

the slower mac speed dosen't really show, it still processes i'd say pretty quick.

good luck.

hey i resently just bought a mac 2.2ghz, its great, not problems yet, i have office 2008 and im not missing windows at all, the only thing i cant to is some 3d modeling, but i overcame that with a niffty program called vmware, basicly you can run both Lepord OS 10.5(mac) and windows at the same time (in a window) with a function of drag and drop.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:V...Fusion_110.png Mac behind, windows vista infront.
in the end im really glad i spent the money, all 1300 smackaroos

hope this helps

Why do you want a mac?? Is there anything wrong with the OS you are using now??

Is it worth it?? well that's up to you to decide. I currently have a macbook pro, and I only buy macs. I find it suits my needs better.

If you are going to end up buying a mac, I'd suggest you give it a try for at least a month or so. Give it some time to get used to the OSX UI. Its different from a windows UI. I remember when I switched about 3 years ago. I got frustrated with my mac a first, and couldn't even install a program. Test out OSX, and after a month or so, if you don't like it, simply sell it. Macs have fairly high resale values like Hondas.

btw, I wouldn't buy a 1ghz G4 now. Its old, and it barely meets Leopards system requirements.

I only used a Macbook on a few occasions some 3 years ago. I always hear that Mac's are supposed to be "Media" oriented, and I can see that being true.

However my own personal laptop is a Toshiba running Windows XP. No complaints.

Ya its up to you I am a technician at a local future shop and I get this question all the time. If your a new user to computers Mac can be easier to learn at first but if you need windows for work or for a specific program stay with windows.Me myself I am a Windows guy have always had windows. I am always using Macs tho but I am use to the PC platform. I see more PCs in the shop then I do Macs. In a month I see about 6 MacBooks. The Odd iMac so its up to you they are pretty good but the thing that goes most on the Mac Laptops are the Touchpads. They are crap after a year. So just to be advised.

Depends what you need it for.

i'm going to be getting one soon to do all my designing with.

I find that the speed on a mac using adobe software is far superior than a pc.

I have used a Mac for about a year or so, for at home (if your not a gamer) it's definitely the way to go. Just seems tehy have their act more together for a home user then Microsoft does with Windows (a prime example is if you want to edit the file sharing on Vista for use with other systems besides Windows, XP was dead simple, but because they increased the security, now you have to start editing the registry and stuff, it's all documented in MS documentation, it's ridiculous the average home user won't figure it out)..

Unless your really on a budget I'd try to at least get an Intel based Mac, gives you the option of running Windows (zero compatibility issues), and will give you a higher level of futureproofing for the next OS after Leopard (they phased out the G3, I'd imagine the next OS will exclude the G4, and no many people bought G5, so maybe that one too, but I don't know they might keep PPC support).

But ya, solid computers....

you won't get an unbiased informative answer from anyone.

we all have our biases.

the truth is, pc is a far better option to go if you're not a long hair.

he's right about the unbiased part....

I have a buddy who's in teh army, he said a large amount of them use a Mac for their personal computer (including him)...kind of disputes your long hair argument...

Simply boils down to what it will be used for, and what you need it for.

I'm strictly in the economincs and finance field, i have no use for a MAC even if someone gave it to me for free. But on the other hand im artistic, and i have among many hobbies, one desire to creat media applications, so i'll be getting a Mac soon. And i have a game called "WORLD IN CONFLICT" got it as gift from my best friend in the Army.lol i know eh. i have been dying to play it, turns out i need a very fast computer with top of the line graphics cards and all the crap, i looked at computers and found out "ALIEN" computers company is the place to go for gaming computer needs, all these are in their own way unique, thats why they survive they have their own speciality, at the end it all depends on if you are buying it for a need i.e work or pleasure, i.e utility or usefullness and for what purpose.

I've used Mac/PC and noticed a small performance in MAC's when using Photoshop, Finalcut Pro etc. but this was 5 + years ago.

For most web related stuff, I found virtually no difference but when working with HUGE psd files for print, the mac came out on top.

5 years ago when would have been just when OS X was coming out....there have been many advances since then...

When you discuss Apple you must talk before and after OS X, things before were pretty different (OS 9 was ****, and Windows was better at the time)

correctemondo!

risking dying for george bush and dick cheney while terrorizing the planet is for smart people.

most smart people want to be paid to jump into a field with a gun.
