"competitive industry" - as if RIM isn't coming out with new devices every year to keep the customers hungry for more? RIM != Palm
"outstanding litigation" - there is only one lawsuit that I currently know of. Anything else has already been settled and this one will be too.
It took RIM like 5 years to get 1 million subscribers and now they're adding almost 2 million per quarter. Nothing but brightness for the future there.
And with the BlackBerry just now starting to become more of a mainstream product instead of just a hardcore business user device, it will only get better.

- In their 2007 annual report, pgs. 93-95 are all about litigation. But specifically on page 95 there are issues with Visto, DataQuill, Williams, a pension fund. All of those are resolved? Plus the current news about Telecommunications Systems. It seems like they are in an industry where litigation problems are prevalent. They have the cash on their balance sheet to deal with it, but it is still risky.
I'm not saying they are a good or bad company or stock. I am just saying, looking long-term at the company (in my opinion) the uncertainties and high growth expectations priced into the stock make them risky.

^^Very true. With wireless carriers giving these devices now for next to nothing and data plans getting cheaper its only going to help them more. Working in the industry its certainly paid the bills and then some lately.
