Samsung vs. Sharp LCDs
Planning on buying an LCD tv this week and after a bit of looking around, i narrowed down to Samsung and Sharp 46" models. Both are priced at $1699+gst at FS (the lowest i have seen so far). The reviews have been great on both the models but would like to see if you guys can share some feedback based on your experience with either of these brands.
The sale guy tried to sell the samsung to me and told me they are selling 3 to 1 compared to sharp.
Thanks in advance

Why an LCD?
In that price range a plasma will own an LCD IMO. The lower priced LCD's usually have a slow response time, refresh rates and low contrast. My 50" plasma is about the same price and I guarantee it will blow both of the sets you mentioned out of the water. You can even come by one day and check it out with the PS3 playing a blu ray movie.
I had a cheaper LCD and my 4 year old plasma looked way better.
Also remember when paying extra for a 1080p tv that you will will only enjoy that picture with a blue ray or true hd source. From what I remember, even the hd signal from most cable providers isn't 1080. I would buy a better quality 720p/1080i.
My 42" plasma is almost 4 years old and has been problem free. Sure the extended warranty would be a good peace of mind purchase, but how often do new tv's really fail?

plasmas do blow the pants off LCD panels. My vizio plasma looked way better than my sister's Sony xbr LCD. Plasma are cheaper too!! Better colour, depth, contrast etc. But sometimes a LCD is a better choice if you have a high glare room or your wife likes to leave the tv paused on a scene and possible burn in is a concern.

i suggest going to bestbuy first and asking for a deal. i have a 32' 1080p Toshiba. got it @ bestbuy $150 off regular price, $75 for a 4 year plan. (i saved $50 coz fs was selling it $100 cheaper) Just talk to the manager tell him your buying the same tv @ FS and ask him what he can do for in terms of prices.
samsung tv's are sick... specially the black glossy ones. Aquos is nice too, picture looks sharp.

Actually no. Samsung makes their own components and Sony uses NEC and Hitachi. Samsung used to supply 50% to Sony, but now it's mostly Hitachi and NEC. One of the reasons Sony is priced higher for comparable tv's. You're paying extra just for the name.
