Sure, if the O/P wanted to spend twice as much money on a much bigger TV. The XBR really isn't in the same league as the 2 tv's posted. But, for the same amount of money that the XBR cost's, I'd get something else.
AFAIK they are all the same. Maybe just different, newer versions.

Ignore Extended Warranty. Either choice should be fine.
Hey Sal,
Both brands are quite good in terms of quality. As you can tell from everyones posts, nobody has actually had any terrible experience with Sharp or Samsung.
Samsung is one of the largest manufacturers of lcd panels and the Sharp Aquos line has usually been very well received.
With regards to extended warranty. It's not neccessary. If a the LCD panel doesn't fail within one year from purchase it's unlikely to fail thereafter. And if your LCD was to fail say 2 or 3 years from your purchase, you could probably purchase a brand new TV for cheaper and better than the one that just failed by that time. Especially with the way LCD prices keep falling.
Also if you werent aware, most if not all credit cards come with their own extended warranty when u make a purchase using a credit card.
I know that my PC Financial MC and Scotia Scene Visa and TD Rebate Visa all include an extended warranty free of charge.
They either provide 1 year extended or double whatever the manufacturer warranty is.
So using your Credit card you're getting 2 years of warranty already.
Extended warranties from electronics stores are definitely one of the most unnecessary purchases you can make. The stores know very well how likely a product will fail and price them accordingly.
Happy shopping with your TV.. take a pic of your setup

It really depends on your usage. Generally Plasmas are of much better quality than LCDs, but LCDs have come a long way to close the gap.
I believe there is a rule of thumb where if you're going above 50" you should go for Plasma.
But than it also depends on if ure going to be doing gaming or mostly movie watching.
LCD's have generally been better for gaming while Plasmas were for movie watching.
Personally i think both are great and to the majority of us average joe viewers we cant really tell the difference. The human eye can only distinguish so much detail and clarity.

I have 2 plasmas and I had an lcd and IMO the plasmas are far superior in terms of picture quality. Brighter colours, better picture, faster response time. I would only buy an lcd if the room it was going in was very, very bright and I was planning on playing ALOT of games on it. Both of my plasmas have no burn-in and I play games almost every day.
Most tv's (plasma and lcd) have game modes and other options to eliminate burn-in. Mine has a screen saver, pixel shift, etc. Even just adjusting the pictures contrast reduces burn-in. Burn-in is virtually a thing of the past.

burn in for the most part is remedied by the screen cleaner mode which is a bright white screen or a screen showing "snow" but prolonged use of a steady image can produce permanent burn in. Like 12 hours of halo or whatever but if you do that you have other problems

I bought a 46" Bravia XBR3 mounted it on the wall and realized it was too small..then bought the 52" XBR3 love this LCD. Only thing was I bought it when it was 5499.99 almost 2 years ago....prices have really dropped on LCD's but that always happens.
