Satellite TV

By the way, what would be an average cost for satellite TV?
Also, are all the channels pretty much the same regardless of which company you go with?
Yes, I'm a noob on this.

umm, mostly u can get Dish Net. or Expressview ripped off, go to a flea market, they got tons of guys there that will hook u up and do everything u need and prolly show u how to program a FTA reciever if u get shot down, prolly around 300-350 or so, dont quote me on that tho.

i saw my cousin upgrading the software (or whatever that is that needs to be updated) on the net..you just have to go to this forums then download the file..then you connect the box to your computer through a usb cable im assuming (i only saw the other end which connects to the box) then open the updater on your pc and voila your done.

im running FTA ...theres always downtime. Atleast a day or two...so if u dont have any other type of tv (cable) then be ready to be bored for atleast 24-48hrs. But the new codes are usally out pretty fast.

legal stuff is for suckers.
fta FTW....my down time is aprx 30mins-1hr. we have the programs on our computer that my pops came and hooked up. not sure of what was all involved but I gave him $320 and he purchased/installed everything for me. Now if we get zapped, I just get the codes from the internet. Sometimes I have to flash the whole system and then plug into my computer to reload a new program. no big deal though cause that takes about 7 minutes. All the channels, all the programs, all the time!

a good box for today and in the future wil run you about 500 dollars. The major satellite providers are switching over to Mpeg-4 format from Mpeg-2, so if you're looking to watch tv in HD, which I hope you are, you should look into a Viewsat, or any others that are capable of decoding mpeg-4 once the change goes through.

viewsat is having legal issues right now and is getting zapped quiet frequently. However this past week or so its been running great the odd autoroll but comes right back up. i highly doubt ur down time is 30-60mins... def takes at least 24 hours before someone comes out with a fix.
