ya man me too, I'm royally fuct. in my case, school was a huge mistake (as it appears at the moment)

one peice of advice i can give you is volunteer/get work in the field that you wanna take school in. school won't do anything for you unless you have industry contacts or some experience. so so whatever it takes, go to magazines and volunteer, or media agencies or advertizing agencies. there are some pretty high powered ones around toronto, get a portfolio together and start knocking on doors. school just legitimizes your skill.... the skill (as you've already demonstarated) is already there. so put it out there, show your stuff, and whatever. not all jobs are posted all the time. and if you go for an advertizing agency, it may turn out that you gotta take school in graphic design rather than photography to work for them, and that's good info to know. so yeah, i guess what i'm asking is.... what do you mean by 'photographer'?

well the program has a 2 part placement segment of it which is great for getting a foot in the door in many places...this whole plan woulda worked well if I still had work at the moment and could have been saving up but as my great luck has it I dont have a job now and I'm stuck between a rock and hard place

by photographer means many things from solid print work in magazines to journalistic work to event coverage...it all doesnt matter to me, I'm just looking to legitimize as you put it my skill and get networked as well learn more

i wouldn't rely on school to help your networking, cuz there'll be many ppl in the same program all competing for the attention of the same companies. instead, go either to the school now or check their website and see if you can find out who recruits there, then take your portfolio and start knocking on doors, and by knocking on doors i don't mean ask for jobs. instead, i mean talk to people about the industry, what their career paths have been, what they think is a rare but important quality in a photographer, etc... just chat them up, get to know them... then when they actually do recruit, you'll have the advantage over your classmates. a particularly valuable resource is alumni from that program (even from other schools)... just see if you can scam the alum list from the school by saying you wanna get 1st hand opinions on their program.

My bud was in your shoes 2.5 years ago. He was laid off and so emotionally drained from looking for work, he started drinking at my place to hide it from his wife. We sat down one night and look over his options, I made a comment to try fishing out in BC for the season. I did it for a summer when I was 17 and come home with 10k after all my expenses.

He didn't seemed thrilled I mentioned the idea but I stuck at him to at least try and look further into it. While he was searching at my place, he found some jobs out in Alberta and out of the blue he inquired about a couple of jobs in laying piping near medicine hat. He called me up out the blue one night and said the wife and himself could get a ride out to Pearson. Apparently he got the job and his wife was looking for work while they were there for the spring - fall season.

This past season, he made well over 100k after taxes and expenses. He's now spending his days playing rock band and the ****er still comes my place to drink

I dunno if this is an option at all for you but I felt I'd share his story at least.

It is good to see that you take your responsibilities seriously, Matty.

hahaha last week on "the deadliest catch" one boat hired a guy off the dock, two days in to the season the guy was threatening to jump overboard if the captain didnt turn around at take him back to port. so they had to take him back...they interviewed the guy (who was a brother) he said he saw it on tv and thought he could do it but he was terribly wrong and didnt know that waves could get as tall as buildings and that he just freaked out.

GO MATT GO!!!
