screwed over or not cautious enough

i got a friend who bought a CRX with a ZC for 1800 bucks from a guy who assured him the car was alright he had a fairly good look at it but when it went for safety there was no way the car would ever ppass a safety it was way too ****ed up is that my buddy's fault for buying a screwed up car or can he go after the guy for false representation or something whos's fault was it the buyer or the seller or both? can anything be done?

Did your friend ask if the car had been safetied before he bought it?? cause if it wasn't then that right there should have made him not buy the car or ask what needed to be fixed before it would pass...i am not to sure if there is much you can do about it...

buyer beware...and thats why if the car looks shady in anyway u get it looked at by a shop...anyways u can make the money back and then some parting it out (depending on condition on parts)

basically ur friend got screwed as the seller can plead ignorance and it was no doubtly sold "as is" its always up to the buyer to ensure the condition of tha car cuz the seller in some cases dont know jack or they really dont care

Not to be a dick but anyine who buys an EF knows u have to check the underbody..............if ur friend thinks the guy purposely screwed him over, maybe him and a few friends could "ask" for there money back. only thing left to do would be to part it out

buyer beware - it's his responsability to make sure he is buying what he wants.

if the car drives fine why not just find someone to make up a special safety so it'd pass? although if the unibody is bad then it'd only go downhill... and you buddy would have to consider his own safety at that point lessons learned i suppose

regarless of whether the car looks shady or not you gte it checked out at a shop. a shop of your choosing .... I remember when one member went to buy a car the used car dealer went with him from south scarborough to north scarborough just to have it checked out at a shop of the persons choosing most used car dealers will let you go where you want for this. if they don't walk away

no caveat emptor is a business principle that outlines that its the the buyers responsibility to determine the value before a purchase
basically buyer beware

tell him to part it out.. since he ****ed up and didn't look at it.. just sell the engine body panels doors ect.. youd get a large chunk of what he spent on the car back

heres how it works. If he sold it As is your SOL.

If he sold it to you, and knew about the problems, you can take him to court over it, but have fun proving that he DID know about the underbody.

He could say he thinks it's fine, and unless you had a witness, to him saying he knew about it, your SOL also =/

Simply put, he should have taken it to a shop that he knows and had someone look over it.........personally I'd rather spend $50 having someone check over EVERYTHING and finding out that there is too much work to be done to get it on the road, then $1800 for something that you can't even drive. Even sometimes the seller will split the cost or even pay for it(if you decide to buy the car)if it's a private sale....don't know about dealers....I usually buy from private sellers.
