I usually say "merry christmas" exclusively to people around this time who i stereotype as not celebrating christmas. anyone rude about, gets something back.

this is canada. you live here. follow the public customs. otherwise, go back to whatever country you're from.

i should add i don't think of christmas as anything religious. I just think of it as a celebration to the end of the year. a good time to get together and see your family more.. and drink in front of them. it's also good for the economy.

the war on candian culture and tradition is ridiculously stupid.

The whole be tolerant of everyone attitude has gotten way way way out of hand, and it will only get worse. The way i look at it, canada is dominated by christian/catholic/anglican and what not religions who celebrate christmas. So therefore, if you dont celebrate it ..tough **** i dont care what you believe, so take the free holiday and STFU!!

hey, christmas is no longer about christianity. at least not in the sects you posted.

the real Christian christmas is to be celebrated more solemly and on January 5.

Santa is not here to be with Jesus. The Christmas most of us celebrate has been formed around a pagan holiday to create more appeal to the religion.

I've never been relgious, and Christmas is my 2nd favourite time of year (halloween being the first - when else can you walk around in public and see skulls everywhere?!)

it's origins and it's current practice are two different things in the mainstream.

i dont know where santa originated, wasnt coca cola responsible for making him as popular as he is...or the trees, no idea there. But its common practice to put the star on the top of the tree to symbolize what the 3 wise men were following, and the shopping thing is just that they gave him gifts so we're supposed to give to others..i guess

Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ.

I'm not sure what kwanzaa is.

Why do the Jews and Christians celebrate something with similair activities (getting together, celebrating, and giving gifts) at the exact same time of year if the cause is so genuine yet so different?

Do you even know what the believed month of Jesus' birth by most Christian churches really is? It wasn't December. It wasn't January.

Try to think a little deeper about things ingrained within society. Everything isn't shallow enough to be seen from the surface.

i just assumed that because i've heard a million times christmas is a celebration of the birth of christ that it actually was a celebration of the birth of christ lol

I'd read more on it but i dont follow religion anyway and dont want to..i just pick up beliefs or traditions from a mix of religions and throw them together into what makes me happy, isnt that all religion is supposed to be anyway?

I think Merry Christmas works.

But one thing.... If your not a "Chistmasy" type of person because of some type of religious reason or something along those lines...does that mean that you shouldnt buy anything at any of the "Christmas Sales"? Im pretty sure non practicing patrons still go out and reep the rewards of the season instead of boycotting the whole event.

actually the process of given each other gifts has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus.

The gift giving orginated from a Pegan winter celebration that started from before Jesus was born. exact name of the feastival I'm not sure of, but it was a roman custom long before the birth of Christ.

and for the record there is lots of proof that Jesus wasn't even born any time around this time of year. The bit I can remember about this had to do with the shepards tending their flock and how at this time of year the flock is kept indoors and wouldn't have been in a field as the story says they were. so if the story is true the timing is wrong... if the timing is right the story is wrong.
