none of that "get the car that makes you happy" stuff cause both would make me happy but just wanted some opinions from you guys on which car you think would be a wiser purchase...cause the civic is easier to mod but everyone and there grandma owns one...the 240 is harder to find parts for but would be badass if done up...opinions? thanks!

I'm not too keen on the styline of the 240 so I gotta say the Si hatch!!

But what's the price difference between the two? If the hatch is cheaper, save the extra money for mods or something!!

while stock 240 aren't the greatest cause of the nissan truck engine that powers them... if you swap in a SR20DET and pending which model of it you get you'll be having stock 200-250hp... not many civics can keep up with that

I agree, get a 240sx

If you look at it, the people that buy a EG hatch and put in like a B18C5 engine into it spend around 8 grand total, or a bit more for work.

But if you get the 240sx, the SR20DET swap off the S13 Silvia is about 2,000-4,500.00 depending where you buy it and what it comes from and it can produce mad power too

exactly... stock they make 200+hp... uncork the bov or wastegate(whichever one controls inlet pressure) and you can get much more power

Well I'm not a big fan of the older 240s..., so I would have to say SI hatch.

Get the 240. Yeah they use gas, and yes they suck in winter, but they have so much potential. If you've got time and a lot of money to spend you have a totally badass and truly unique ride.

But yeah they're still expensive for the age they are.

I'm not a huge fan of the 240's.. an on top of that.. (and im not saying honda's dont rust either) I know a couple guys that have them ... and they rust a lot worse then hondas .. if that's possible... plus if you use it in the winter driving sucks.... spin spin spin...

yeah 240s love to rust around the spoilers.. I only seen horrible 240's or perfect 240's... Rust wise.. They're more like 4th gen civic's with rotting rockers.. Nice cars, cheap for the luxury, but remember if u buy a rare-err car, it will cost more in everyway!

in 18 months, everyone and their grandma would be driving a 240.

EVERYONE is jumping onto the latest FR craze

i'd say stick w/ a civic... fastest track cars i've seen this year are mostly hondas / acuras thus far.

Actually the 240 is a faster track car. Almost even weight distribution, low centre of gravity and FR. It'll crush a Honda with the same amount of money spent on it.

bbarbulo :
I think in japan their model was called a Silvia 180 (the 91 model year)? Other than engine differences and some suspension pieces both cars are identicaly. And mechanically the 240 very reliable. After all it is MADE IN JAPAN! lol

fbp99hatch :
BTW, there is an article on moding the 240sx in the current or last months Sport Compact Car. It is also a project car for them currently.
Good luck.

that is incorrect... nissan released many of these sileighties.... they can from the factory with a silvia front end and 180sx rear ends.... likewise they also made things with 180sx front ends and silvia's rear ends... i can't remember what they were called though and they were much less popular.... they had the sileighty in gran turismo 2 i think.... its a decent looking car....
