six separate shootings
http://www.pulse24.com/News/Top_Stor...6-001/page.asp
Exactly a week after a Stats Canada report indicated the G.T.A. had the lowest crime rate of any major Canadian area, came an explosion of gunfire and violence that left emergency officials hopping.
Seven men were wounded in six separate shootings in just over two hours.
It began late Monday night, when shots rang out on Dorney Court in a troubled area near Allen and the 401. A 30-year-old was shot in the groin and hand and staggered to a third floor apartment in nearby Leila Lane, where he collapsed.
He was rushed to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, but his wounds weren't life threatening. He was treated and released Tuesday night.
Cops swarmed onto the scene and found it familiar territory. They’d been there the night before after a spray of bullets disrupted a memorial for two murdered community leaders on the same street. But investigators aren’t sure yet if the shootings are connected.
Police are seeking as many as eight suspects. The area is known to be plagued by gang violence.
But that wasn't the only outrage of the night.
An hour after that incident, around midnight, sirens screamed out again. This time, ambulances raced to Islington and the Lakeshore in the west end, where a 26-year-old man was shot twice and slightly wounded as he left a local restaurant.
He was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital for treatment. Two men remain at large.
A few minutes later, at Weston and Finch, two males were shot in an attempted robbery behind a diner. A 27-year-old was taken to hospital, while a 37-year-old came in later.
They told police two or three suspects approached them and demanded their money. When they tried to run, they were shot.
The younger man went back to the eatery for help, while friends took his stricken pal to an E.R.
At around the same time, a 19-year-old man was gunned down on Glendower Circuit in the Birchmount and Finch area. He was using a cellphone, when another man walked by him. The next thing he knew, shots rang out and he fell to the ground wounded.
His injuries aren’t bad, but he refused to co-operate with police. And it didn’t take them long to find out why.
The victim was wanted for another shooting that took place May 8th on Birchmount Road. He’s been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and weapons dangerous, and will make a court appearance in the near future.
By the time the clock struck 1am, crews were back out again, this time to Dundas and Spadina. A man was grazed by a bullet fired by a bicycle cop.
The two had been in a struggle in an alleyway downtown when the suspect allegedly grabbed the officer's gun. A shot was discharged but no one was hit.
The cop was able to regain control of both the situation and his weapon, thanks to the help of some passersby, but received a bite to his forearm and a cut to his elbow.
Twenty-eight year-old Chay Luu is facing a variety of charges, and is now awaiting an immigration hearing.
And finally, about 2:15am, a male was shot in the leg near Allen Gardens. Authorities say a man was talking on a pay phone at a gas station when he was approached by two other males.
As one engaged him in conversation, the other suddenly pulled out a handgun and opened fire. He tried to run but didn’t get far. He wound up at St. Mike’s for treatment.
It’s the only major case of the night where police have a good description of the culprits.

While police admit they’ve rarely seen so much violence in such a short time in so many different places, they’re equally amazed that with all the rounds that were fired, no one was killed.
And they've got their work cut out for them - there have been no arrests in any of the random shootings.
Chief Bill Blair has issued a statement condemning the violence, attributing it to the work of “small numbers of young men [who] engage in gunplay in heavily populated areas.”
He’s ordered more patrols by members of the Guns and Gangs Task Force, in order to show those with their fingers on the trigger cops and the community won’t stand for the violence.

Statement By Chief Bill Blair
"The events of last night are of concern to me, to the members of the Toronto Police Service and to the people of this city.
There were five shootings, at different locations in the city. The victims are known to police. It seems clear, at this stage, that the shootings are not connected and that they are retaliatory in nature. A number of the victims are not co−operating with investigators; others are being less than helpful. None of the injuries is believed to be life−threatening.
In one of the shootings, the 19−year−old victim was wanted in connection with a shooting which is alleged to have occurred on Sunday, May 8, 2005, on Birchmount Road. He has been arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon and Weapons Dangerous in that shooting. His court date is pending.
Overall, crime is down in Toronto, confirmed by last week’s national crime figures. That is very encouraging news. The number of gun calls in Toronto is stable but I have been concerned for some time at the willingness of small numbers of young men to engage in gunplay in heavily populated areas.
I have already directed that additional police officers, including Guns & Gangs officers, be deployed to these five areas. We are committed to working with members of all communities to end this cycle of violence. The job for my officers is clear: provide reassurance through high−profile patrols and pursue every investigative opportunity.
I would ask those members of our community, who have information that may assist with our investigations, to come forward and contact police in their division. If they wish to do so anonymously, I would ask them to contact Crime Stoppers at 416−222−TIPS (8477) or online at www.222tips.com.
"We have ample evidence in Toronto that working together works. I know that those who live in the areas affected by yesterday’s shootings are as determined as I am to work together to protect public safety."

As if Toronto’s night of the gun wasn’t enough, now the city to our west has experienced some violence of its own.
Shoppers in Mississauga were horrified Tuesday, after a brazen daylight shooting hit the Square One Shopping Centre.
It happened just after the noon hour outside the T.D. Bank, when someone opened fire on a man in a gold coloured S.U.V.
When Peel Police arrived they found the victim lying prone and without vital signs. He was apparently shot in the face as many as five times and later died in hospital.
“I heard two shots and I looked over to my left and I saw a black man shooting into that S.U.V.” relates one witness, who refused to give her name. “The window was up, and he did two more shots.”
As cops poured out all over the area, rumours began spreading about what happened. “Apparently he's been shot like four times but it's kind of crazy, you know?” a witness named Richard shakes his head. “It's ridiculous.”
Cops immediately began scouring the neighbourhood, looking for suspects and a motive.
Armed E.T.F. officers, backed up by the canine unit, soon stormed a Mississauga Transit bus and took two men off the vehicle.
“All I heard was a bunch of dogs barking, and I seen two … S.W.A.T. team blue vans run through here, drive right up to the corner there and they blocked in the bus,” relates another witness.
But authorities now say they have no suspects in custody and are still looking for the suspected triggerman.
If you saw anything, cops need to hear from you. Call them at (905) 453-2121.

its soo sad, gangs shooting anybody because people didn't "respect them". its not even that...its not cause a person disrespected them they get shot, its cause many people don't fear them the way they want, so they get shot. look wrong, get shot...say something wrong, get shot...wear something that a gang member mistakes as rival gang, get shot...its unreal. and to top it all off, people in alot of the communities that witness this, stand for this ****. they don't call the people with info cause of A) fear or b) it dosen't concern them. every year the world becomes more and more ****ed up...
like said above, guess fists do justice for being so called "disrespected" like they used too. now your only tough if you shoot, a knife or fists and your mocked, WTF
i think a big problem with the guns is our border crossing, the Canadian side never gets out of the booth to check...the US hounds you (Even if american). you can have a trunk full of guns and most of the time, if you have a passport its "have a nice day". most if not all of these guns came from the US and continue to daily, its a problem Toronto Police will never get ontop of, its just not possible

even with the minimum 10 year law cops usually give out "deals"
when they catch the suspect they ask what the source is, being a suspect u aint gonna say the source.
in the end the cops go like "ill let you out in 5 years if you tell me how"
bingo ... half the sentence

In Singapore, the lash/wipe is da ****. If you receive 10, but could only take 3, they send you to back to heal then bring you back out to finish up the rest.
Lash that is as thick as 2 fingers, most people get completely knocked out after 1 or 2.
Fear should be reinstated in those who do the bad deeds, not those who obey the laws and live their lives as normal people.

It's all BS!
Simple as that. I personaly thinkusing a gun is the P#$$Y way out. It's ike they're too chicken to fight somebody, cuz they know the'll get their *** whipped.
I agree with cutting their finger/hand off. See how many shooting's there is when all the trigger finger "tough guys" don't have any fingers to shoot with.
Okay...I'm done now. Just had to get it out. I had a friend who had his life threatenned by one of these punks. Needless to say....I'm not a fan of "gun play". That's another thing. Why do they call it "gun play"? It's not a #$%@ing toy! It's a weapon. Call it what it is. People are getting shot because other people are shooting them. It's not "gun play". It's shootings. Don't sugar coat it.

i don't believe in carrying weapons as i would prefer to avoid all such situations.
however, if someone threatened me in any way, and i knew i wouldn't be caught, i don't think i would feel any remorse were i carrying a gun, and were i to splatter brain tissue across the wall.
when i was a teenager, some guy once tried to mug us with a bat, my friend took out his blade, stabbed him in the arm and we ran. he left the blade in his shoulder. haha
