thanks Sev for the words of encouragement... I think I will quit smoking soon. I think I'm ready!! maybe? I've thought that before too. Thing is, I wanna put smoking money into an RRSP so I can retire even richer $10 a day in an RRSP is hella money... works out to about a half million at my age.

the first weekend's going to be a b1tch.

not even a punching bag helps.... for me... what's the first thing you want to do after throwing off gloves or wraps after wailing on something for 30 minutes...

women.. what's the first thing you want after.....

eating.. what's the first thing you want after a meal.....

driving... getting to a bar.... getting your first drink... leaving the bar...

all this... this is what really drove me to quit.. realizing how friggin addicted i was... and some of the effects of course... not because of the smell or cause of smokers breath or for my heart... who cares about that is...

anyway, if you're gonna quit, do it cause you want to, not because it is advised. and remember, "just one tonight" means total failure.

stress is a much bigger killer than cigarettes.

if a man lives to 120, has smoked every day of his life, and dies of lung cancer, they will blame cigarettes in their statistics... once you're past 80.. anything is fair game.

***DISCLAIMER*** Though I have quoted one or more posts, this post is NOT directed at any specific individuals. When I say "you" I mean "you" the reader, or "you" the smoker. Again, I am NOT trying to put down any of my fellow TCC members. I'm just trying to state my opinion on smoking.


First of all, people that smoke "do look cooler", but that is only because it has been programmed into us by the media that you need to smoke to be cool. And who programmed us to think that? Tobacco companies. I don't smoke. Never have, never will, but I will admit that it DOES look cool.

Those commercials are not aimed at getting people to quit. They are aimed at stopping teenagers for starting to smoke. As much as I hate to admit that smoking does look cool, you have to admit, knowing what you know about smoking, it is seriously stupid. You enjoy it, fine, and more power too you. I would never ask you to stop. It's a free country (sorta... dont get me ranting on that...). But would you really encourage young kids to start smoking? I understand people that have smoked for a long time and can't or don't want to quit. That makes sense to me. What I DONT understand is these 13+ year olds that want to start. I mean heck, you KNOW it's going to mess with you, WHY would you ever want to start? And lets be honest... what does smoking "really give you"? Sure the nicotine is a drug that mellows you out, but are you seriously saying that you aren't man/woman enough to coupe with life on your own and you need to invest $5 to $10 bucks a day on stink sticks? Sorry... If anything, that is motavation enough for anyone to quit.

If you smoke a pack a day which is fairly common...

$7 x 7 days = $49 a week.
$49 a week x 52 weeks in a year = $2,548

Now, assuming that you smoke a little extra on weekends and in the summer, lets take that to $3,000 a year. $30,000 a fairly decident yearly income. If you smoke that much, you just smoked 10% of your paycheck. That is ASSUMING you get $30,000 AFTER TAXES. Oh yeah, and I beleave 70+% of the cost of smokes is all duty and taxes anyway, so you are paying the government to poison you...

That amout of money is a wicked vactation in Hawaii or Cuba. Not to mention what kind of modifications you could do to your Honda

(fyi - if you wonder why i give a crap? both of my grandfathers died of lung cancer due to smoking)

most of my friends have quit smoking a long time ago. i did too, but it's juss so damn cool. i have my smoking bouts then stop for 6 months then smoke again. but i really dont smoke that often and i know i can quit whenever i want forever, which is y i'm not too worried bout myself. it's the other half i worry bout.

yeah, you're right, only smokers will know what it's about. my brother asks me why you smoke (he's older than me, never smoked) and I cannot explain it. it's like explaining color to a blind man or music to a deaf man. you can't explain it!!

first 1/2 day of not smoking... well, almost 12 hours now and no smoking. I'm jittery and have pretty strong cravings.

i RARELY drink, i havent smoked in 4 years, if oyu saw me at a club or whatever.. you couldn't tell the difference, as long as the music is good... otherwise i'm sittiong there being an idiot by sticking sppons to my nose or seomtehing
