So I went shopping in the States
The wife and I went to Niagara Falls NY to do some shopping yesterday. The dollar is still around $1.05 US so why not. We went to a Tops for groceries then for dinner at Chili's. I made a few observations...
-Stuff really isn't that cheaper there. Things like meat and junk food are the same, produce and dairy is cheaper and the selection of more normal healthier food seems more limited then in Canada.
-Leads me to my next observation. The US population is obese for a reason. There was so much junk food, pop, chips, snacks, etc my head was spinning.
-The roads are terrible. Way worse then here and Hamilton's roads are crap.
-People drive very slow. 55 and 65 on the higway and people were bang-on the speed limit.
-Very few cops that I saw.
-Chili's was awesome. I wish we had more US restaurant chains in Canada. I would live at the Olive Garden if they were still here.
Not a bad trip altogether. We are going back in a few weeks to do some clothes shopping.

Mike, I very often go to the States, sometimes to Buffalo shopping, but more often on business to other places in the U.S.
I am currently in North Dakota, and I have to say that almost everything here is cheaper than in Toronto.
Just like you, I also noticed that healthy foods in the States are hard to come by, however, that depends on where you go. North Dakota is probably one of the worst places I have been as far as being able to find healthy food. Even at the grocery store it is almost impossible to find anything healthy, and one of the things that surprised me is that they don't have any bakeries or baked goods. Good luck trying to find any bread other than sliced bread, and to my surprise they have no donuts anywhere. I wonder what cops eat.

Thank God for Canada, im proud that our government isn't all that meek, during the cow disease era, US was trying to supply us with their cow milk, which was Genetically modified, it has so much hormone, that over time it not only made yonger people look older bulkier but gave brain damage, i.e why their cows got the brain tumers known as the mad cow disease, too much hormone **** up humans, thats why they say don't take steriods or the fact that huge body builders like arnold who use that hromone boosting stuff alters the brain to a violent war hungery person. just something i studied in food sociology. But lucky for us, our government banned US milk, and later the mad cow ish came out.
man i haven't been to niagra in 5 years.lol you guys must have had a blast.

Speaking of Timmies, there are alot of them there. I was really surprised. The health food section was really good, but there was no one shopping there except us. The chip aisle was PACKED full of people.

i dont expect food items or grocery shopping to be cheap across the border but you can find deals when shopping for clothes and stuff. a holiday or shopping season is obviously the best time but if there is something specific, you will still find it cheaper.
shopping is bigger and better around cities...like chicago, new york, new jersey and boston etc. them big outlet malls are just sick for shopping.
we had a blast shopping in NJ and NY this past december.

shopping in the states is worth it for a few reasons:
#1 not all things are much cheaper, but a lot of **** is. for example, i like to buy my jeans at banana republic because of the way they fit and they usually cost me around $120/pair after tax here. when i went to banana republic in niagara falls USA, the jeans were $30.
#2 even if stuff isn't cheaper, the states has way cooler **** then we do in canada. There's so much **** they have over there that we don't.

everytime my gf's parents go they bring her back tonnes of gucci and louis V and all that ****
I told them to bring me back Rota's next time cuz they're like $100/set lol.

^^ all that cheap gucci and designer branded stuff is not authentic...its all fake but really really good copies. i saw the same stuff in bangkok all over the place. at one shop in bangkok...they had such close replicas of volk racing rims that unless the guy tells you they are not original...you can never distinguish.

timmies is also a huge sponsor of hockey down there too!
****.. timmies are as far south as columbus ohio! there is like 5 of them, 3 right by the ohio state campus!

no, the ones she has are real, trust me.
and as for the rotas, they are made in the phillipines (so is some of the designer stuff) which is why its so cheap there.
