i asked the cop the same question when he gave me my improper muffler ticket and he couldn't really answer it execpt to say they have bigger motors
then i asked about Harleys (don't even have Mufflers) and street bikes

odds are that he won't show cuz he doesn't want to look stupid infront of the judge when you ask him for a dB reading or anything like that... plus prosecutors have better things to do than try to punish you for your muffler...

I'd walk into the courthouse and shwo them the ticket, I'd bet they'll get rid of the ticket.

It's like saying a cop can look in a phonebook, pick a name, and charge you with anything.

Without a license plate and, more importantly, without a drivers license they can't make a ticket stick.

DB tester wounldn't make any difference since there is no actual DB level given in the HTA. The problem is that the HTA is too vague on this issue and leaves it up the officer's discretion in terms of what is "excessively" loud. We need more clear laws on issues like this, such as in California where the have a specific DB limit for exhausts.

It is unfortunate that cops are doing things like this, and I just wish they would admit the real reason behind this crackdown on modified cars, which is clearly not to stop street racing like they say, instead its just the latest cashgrab.

I wouldn't have revved it for him! I would have told him that any car get's load when you rev the engine with no load on it! Also take that stupid "improper muffler" ticket to court, with your receipts showing that it's an aftermarket replacement part and you'll have it thrown out, since there's nothing improper about it!

dunno if you heard what happened to me at darknights....

but in a nutshell....

got my car towed & impounded....... $560 in tickets...... plus another $90 in towing fees......... plus i sat at the side of the road for 5 hours waiting to get picked up because i was going to be " escorted off private property "

why?
a clear liscence plate cover & a windshield banner that was " obstructing vision "

i got 3 or 4 different court dates to go to since each ticket is from a different cop...... ( yes i got handed down the line like a peice of meat )

which means thats 3 or 4 work days i miss out on......... 3 or 4 days i have to drive out to markham and wait around for my court time.......


im still waiting to hear back from Kevin yee ( darknights ceo )

but since i havnt yet....... maybe things arent going to well for them

well first of all the blear licence plate cover is PURE BULL ****! and second how big is ur banner? coz on every windshield there is a mark on the side that indicates where u can put tint or what every u want above that indicator... since when can they tow ur car for that kind of things? those car be removed right on the spot

Actually, I don't think that they can legally tow your vehicle unless it has sonmething to do with unsafe to be on the road.
If all you were ticketed for was banner and plate cover, both of which could have been removed on the spot, You should easily have both tickets thrown out. Well,maybe not the banner one, they're sticky about that one. Although, I don't understand what you could possibly obstructing your view of, unless they're worried that you might not be able to avoid those pesky meteorites. They really can't say that it's because you have to stop further back to see a street light either. Have you seen how far back Grandma stops? Stupid cow............... If I can see through her car and see the stop line in front of you.......... MOVE THE F@*$ UP!!!
You should probably look at getting a laywer for the towing charges though, as that's not something they give a **** about. Also see if you have a case for a lawsuit. Find out why one cop didn't give you both tickets. If you were soooooo bad, one of them must have been derelict in his duty.

$560 for a licence plate cover and a windsheild banner? Am I missing something? 3 or 4 tickets for the same two offences? I think that you're leaving something out here. Something which would justify the towing of your vehicle.

Oh yeah, the thing about the dB rating of a muffler isn't in the HTA, it's in the transport safety act. 83dB for Commercial vehicles, and 80dB for personal vehicles. I think that it also states how that reading should be taken. Cops mix and match the the HTA, the TSA(?) and the EPAA to charge you with different offences. That's why so many tickets get thrown out. The officer, like so many Televangelists, takes a section and interpets it differently than the next, instead of reading all the info first.

I agree i drove my camaro with mad exhaust leaks for over a year. It was loud at night, plus i drove my isuzu impulse with a blown manifold for a month and only got pulled over once. It is car profiling, but some muffler's/exhausts are excessively loud domestics rumble a lot of imports buzz which is far more annoying. Just my 2 cents (by the way i love imports and sorry but i love domestics too)

well... to tell u the truth I don't think it's only car profiling
coz PinK drove by on the opposite direction with an exhaust that sounds similar to mine... and the cop didn't go after her...
but when he saw me and my friend(guy) in the car he turns out and tails me at the red light on the left lane which I have already stopped and not making any noise..... IT'S DISCRIMINATION!!!

the way they had the roadblock set up after darknights was...

if you were pulled in for inspection...

they had it set up so poorly that you would get passed down the line and get ticketed for various things

the Kevin from darknights was NOT impressed with this roadblock in any way.... and i've contacted him, and hes told me that Innovative Entertainment is building a suit against york region police....... so all i gotta do is wait to see what happens, and go from there

my mom is a lawyer and has given me advice as to what course of action to take..... so its just a matter of time now

your set then, your mom should be able to help you sue their asses... I think they owe you money for missing work to go to court, pluse compensation for being left on the side of the road, noone has the right to take a personal posession like that, unless you are to drunk to drive it home or it is unsafe to drive...Like why dont they go tow the rustbukets off the road, I saw a guy get out of his car the other day and I could see the road through his floor under the pedels...and they say a banner is unsafe...cummon its a perfectly road worthy car probably with a solid floor, solid balljoints, new tires and possibly a set of airbags...damn pigs give me brain tumor sometimes...
