codine is a powerful pain killer, and I think it's addictive too! 
Just don't swallow...spit instead. 
No really, have a spit bucket, and just keep spitting into it so you don't have to irritate your throat. What I do when I'm in pain is just sleep...you won't even know it.

my friend is afraid because her doctor told her she will be awake. they will not put her to sleep....i should tell her that she can get that.

I don't like being unconcious while people work on me.
don't trust them.
i figure they're more likely to do a better job if i'm keeping an eye on them rather than snoozing.
I've heard recovery time is quicker for local anesthetic...
the only reason I can see why is because while you're knocked out, they must butcher you.
why else would they want to knock you out.
