To soft touch, or not to soft touch....?

So I've generally always been paranoid of those soft touch / soft cloth / whatever touch car washes.

Finally today I'm like ok, I gotta give it a try again.. It's been many years since I lost a rear wiper so, why not give them another try. After all I have 2 billion petro points and petro canada only has soft cloth car washes (from what I've seen).

So I got myself "the works" for 5900 points. I even had a little discussion with the cashier about my worries. She convinced me through statistics that they rarely ever had an issue, so I should not worry. Of course, she mentioned it's not garanteed and at my own risk. Longing to use my petro point for something other than buying cases of pepsi, I says ok, I'll go for "the works."

The entry into the car wash was nice.. Scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the least worried and 10 being really (most) worried. I was a 1.

The soft cloth didn't seem so soft as it banged against my windows. I started moving up the scale to around 5.

Then came the blowers to dry the car. Don't know if it's just me, but those damn rollers on the base of the dryers don't seem so soft and smooth. Worry scale was now 7 and I'm totally regretting going in.

Now I sit anxiously for the track to get my car to the end where the light blinks GO and lets me escape my own stupidity. I was ALMOST there, when BANG I hear... look back and my rear wiper blade had be twisted all the way over. Now I've gone from a 7 to 20 on the worry scale. Plus 10 for PISSED OFF!

Get out and find my rear wiper blade broken. Check the front plate and it's bent up completely in half.. Thank god for strong bolts or it would have been taken by the evil within.

Of course the gas station says sorry, your risk, no compensation. Honestly at that point I didn't care, the rest of the car was fine and clean so I took my loses, told them to burn in hell and left.

Oh well, I guess it's back to cases of pepsi and touchless / coin washes..

Anyone else relate?

^^ yeah I think I just have bad luck..

The problem with touchless is that it doesn't clean the car properly.. Unless you go every week or so before the car get's really dirty..

I usually spend $3 at the regular coin op (manual) to scrub the **** outta the car, then go to the touchless automatic to clean everything off and it dries the car as well

The touch washes bother me a bit, i usually don't go through them....always worried my car will almost lose a limb (like yours did)...LOL.

Usually use touchless and get the best wash.

nothing beats washing your car yourself with your own products in your driveway (if you have one) ... safest, cheapest & most effective
