tamil's blocking our roads

lol every thread gonna have idiots throwing random "facts" from out their asses. Any ways its just as much their road as it is "our" road. So leave them be and let them do w/e they want. Your choice whether u support them or not. If the gov't would listen to them maybe they wouldnt have to grab ppl's attention by blocking the roads. I remember driving down keendy road and they were protesting on the side walk. But everyone just drove by ignoring them. So serves u all right. I hope they keep blocking the roads. Everyone in too much of a rush to step back and look at wtf is going on in our world or to even care.

No, most of them are supported by our government as soon as they land here, they live with multiple families in one dewelling sucking our taxes out to support themselves while they do things like this.
Some of them may well run their own businesses, how many do you think are true Canadian citizens. If they were, they wouldn't do this. (Go home and do something, why do we have to send our troops, how many of their family members are in the Canadian armed forces fighting with the existing troops on past and current conflicts or missions?)
I say boycott any business run by them and let's see how they enjoy our own protest against them for disruptoing our lives. Eye for an eye.
Sure they can protest, make your voice known. All they are really doing is creating an uproar that will spark more disrespect for their community than it already has, by acting the way that has been done.

Someone needs to call the Beastie Boys and have them do some awareness concerts.

and why should OUR government listen to people complaining about another country? Biggest mistake Canada made is the freedom to protest, the media is listening but it doesn't even put a correct view on what is happening, so it is accomplishing nothing.
Instead of them taking the **** situation they are in with a positive, educated, proper manner they are acting like idiots by causing issues, making no one give a crap about what's going on.

Toronto cleans up from Tamil protest

The Sri Lankan protesters moved peacefully off of University Avenue this morning, which they had blocked since Sunday evening. When I stopped at a little before 10 a.m., a City of Toronto front-end loader was putting hundreds of garbage bags full of empty coffee cups, takeout containers and water bottles in to a dumpster. Beside a tree sat a pile of sleeping bags and colourful rugs, which the protesters used during their stay. About 50 people maintained the vigil, guarded by about 75 police. A Toronto Police coach was filled with officers who looked like they were exhausted and trying to catch a few hours of sleep.
The protesters want the U.S. and Canadian governments to condemn Sri Lankan government attacks on Tamil positions in the South Asian island nation. I got chatting with Senthan Selva, an accountant who left Sri Lanka at the suggestion of his parents, who said he was unsafe there. He handed me a flyer, "Tamil Genocide in Numbers," which lists 3,745 people killed in Sri Lanka between April. 7 and April 20, according to the "Coalition to Stop the war in Sri Lanka." It is hard to know who is telling the truth, since the Sri Lankan government is not letting foreign journalists, nor the United Nations, into the war zone, Mr. Selva noted. At any rate, the good news is that in Canada, the Sri Lankans, or anyone else, clearly have freedom of speech and the right to protest. Even the media listened to them!
I'm happy to see they are being so respectful

What is this about the media not being allowed in the 'safe-zone'? Cover up? Whenever the media tries to enter the safezone they are arrested by the Sri-Lankian government (including american civilians).
I'm happy for the Tamil's raising awareness of these horrible acts of war and violence.

and quite frankly, thats the problem; no one gives a ****. So they are forcing ppl to give a ****. Whether or not it works is besides the point. The fact that your on TCC complaining about a world issue is evident that they are getting to you, which is their main intention.
So good job ppl keep commenting

lol media never protrays anything correct. Im actually in a class right now called Communication and Mass media .. so dont lecture about media to me lol. News papers are owned by gov't and therefore serve there own purpose to put a spin on w/e "information" they give us. New papers like every other form of media is written by people. People have their own biasis opinions therefore you will never ever get a correct view on ANY situation. The only way is to experience it for yourself.

And to give my honest opinion, if they weren't protesting and pollution the streets of Toronto, I would probably care more about it
You are right about it getting to me though, but its not in a positive way, so what they are doing is completely pointless. They want Canadians to care or they wouldn't have protested here. So if they want us to care, do it in a way Canadians would care. Start a discussion on a car forum or something... anything other then blocking the streets of Toronto, this is only making me want to run them over

Did everyone see some hippies joined the tamils on the Gardiner protest? It was on cp24 and now what is with that.
My suggestion to all is if you have a beef with the country's government, go back there and fight (like how the thai people were doing couple of months back, and how about the people from Darfur - these people didn't protest in Canada).

awareness and discussion does not mean support.

last I checked the LTTE was killing civilians if they tried to flee from the war zone
so the TAMILS are protesting against the Sri Lakan gov to stop killing civilians whereas the LTTE is permitted to do so?
oxymoron

Anyone want to wager a guess at what percentage of the protesters asking for a US intervention in Sri Lanka have the same feelings about the US interventions in Iraq or Afghanistan?

I actually got mad over this.
I completely support them speaking out on whats going on in their country, but to go onto the Gardiner and stop traffic like that was absurd. Also, didn't they have to close down the DVP or something?
Its stupid what they're doing. They're fighting chaos with chaos so to speak.

some people here open their mouths before their brain has time to think..1) they are not asking cdn troops to go in and solve anythign ..so for the morons on page 1 that siad that..uhh go read at least wki before you talk..2) i agree.. blocking the gardiner casued everyday canadians to be against their cause , there are better ways to protest..a better way would be to notify the city that this is going to happen so that they can have proper precautions setup and divert traffic and steer the protest into a public place but not the highways or roads. for all the ppl saying blah blah closing roads.. its ok to close roads to parade **** around on floats but when innocent ppl are getting killed...boo hoo we have to wait on the hgih way..summary: they shouldnt have ad hoc'ed and blocked the roads without notice..
equality is one thing preached..look at the issues when the labanon thing happened, Canada sent planes to go get their citizens...wheres the "equality" that is supposed to be present? i dono where cre5tive leo gets his info but im sure their businesses are going to stay in business without his business
