I have been posting on other sites for years now, and not 1 place charges membership. If TCC were to change to a only PAID members site, you would have 1 less Cee_mon around. Not saying anyone would care, but you would have alot less posters here if you guys did that.
Sponsers are to pay for the server IMO, like most of the other sites around.

it's not supposed to be a PAID members only site, and I don't think it ever will be, but there is still a distinction between people that have paid and people that choose not to...

i guess to some people this will always be just another forum.

Let me put it like this....if you have 100 members on this site at 20 bucks a head. You have 2000 bucks and a site.

Or you have 100 members at 0 dollars a head but with good info. That members number will rise like no tomorrow and sponsers will be paying to keep the site up.

Iam not trying to say how to run a server but who knows, maybe there is someone high up here that is making a profit of it.

hahaha if u only knew, noone makes a profit off this site. Running a regular site might be cheap but with the amount of traffic we have here it's definatley quite expensive. And I agree with you that good info is important to a site

believe it or not sponsors aren't made of money either, they only invest money to make more money, but if they saw a site with 0 paid members, all those people that are reluctant to spend $30, how much can they stand to profit when most car accessories and mods are 5, 10 times that price.

it's just like anything in life if you really believe in something or care about something whatever, in the end u've gotta put ur money where your mouth is, cuz without paid members there would be no tcc and no forum for people like you to share your wealth of knowledge, which i'm sure has helped many people out.

LOL...and I thought this thread was about closing threads

Closing threads (and deleting them) is a judgement call. BTW, most threads are not deleted, but merely removed from public view. Moderators are entrusted by the admins of TCC to manage their appropriate sections. These people are dedicated members who have participated in TCC matters prior to becoming mods.

While some moderators are stricter than others, ALL moderators work thinking that they have the best interests of TCC in mind. I think they do a great job. As I said earlier there is no reason that we can't post our thoughts on why it was done. (I am probably just as guilty as anyone for this)

Now onto paid memberships, TCC would have remained just a Yahoo board had the founders not instituted paid memberships. The founders pooled their money to start the site and get it going. The site grew so fast that the founders and other original members had to pay additional funds in order to keep the site going (The Niagara Cruise in 2002 was set up because TCC was near having to shut down). At this point businesses wouldn't even consider giving money to keep the site going.

If you think getting advertisers is easy, you have never tried to find them yourself. I get hundreds of people wanting to banner swap, or ask for information, 99.9% will not consider paying for advertising on TCC. Most of the advertisers here I had to meet personally (during business hours, costing me time and money) and work the relationship or spark a relationship. Luckily for me they were great people, and I could call them friends now

Quite honestly, if I wanted to shut this site down I would only have to consider paid members and advertisers. Not that it matters to the others...

It's just another forum anyways, right?

So can I close this thread now?

As one of the Moderators of the chit-chat section, I like to look out for the best interests of the club as a whole. Yes I've deleted posts, closed threads and even edited peoples posts. But, 99% of the time it's because the thread has been reported to me, not because I don't like it, or the person who wrote it.

There have been and still are lots of threads I'd like to close, including this one. Ranting about the rules, how the site is run, how much it costs, and why the Mods and Admins do what they do. If you read some of the threads that get locked, it's very easy to see why. Like mentioned above, the threads sometimes get moved to our area, not deleted.

I thinks is pretty simple. If I close or edit a thread or post of your's, pm me and I'll give you an answer as to why. The only posts I have ever deleted were at the request from the author or someone else. I'm sure all of the other Mods an Admins will do the same.

On a monthly basis this site costs 7 new memberships or 21 renewals or 5 paying advertisers at current rates. Obviously none of these happen in a full month so a combination of all three is required. Some months do not bring in enough to cover so we try to keep a 3 to 4 month buffer in place.

Also any costs for member benefits are on top of all this. Last year we discounted the entry to show your car in DKN to $10 (from $40 group rate), we sponsored a go kart team in March at a cost of $150, we have also done free T-shirts in the past....ECT.

wow, that is very generous of you to share the info... most organizations would never disclose information like this.

to transparency
