Too big??
We just made a rather large purchase...
A brand new Samsung HD LCD 52" flat screen TV
comes with the following:
Sony Surround sound system
Sony Blueray DVD player
Harmony touch screen remote
1 yr Rogers HD
HDMI cable
4 yr warrentee
The room its going in is 24' wide, so sofas will be about 15-17' away from the TV. I wanted to go bigger than 52" (I actually wanted the 68"!) but the response I got was "there IS such a thing as TOO BIG, Shaaron"
So is there? Could we have gone bigger?

no, there is no such thing. i have a 52 back home, seating area about 12 feet back. my buddy has a 65, seating area about 8 feet back.
however, even so, you get used to the size and after even the biggest tv will seem small. just stick with your purchase, a 52 is a great size and good value. larger screen formats are more likely to have dead pixles (or so i understand)

Personally I think sitting too close to a big tv isnt visually appealing because you can see the scaning lines and pixels that form the image.
But, if you sit too far away you won't see as much detail. A dark room you can sit further away, but a bright rom might requie you to sit closer.
The 2 to 5 Principal can be used
"For optimum TV viewing distance, the nearest seating position should be limited to approximately twice the screen width (more precise 1.54 times the screen width); the furthest distance should being no more than five times the width of your screen."
What model is the tv?
Again, its personal preference too. My 50" plasma is about 12 feet from my sofa.

I love the actual TV, but wanna know what I hate?! The stupid touch screen remote! Urgh I can't stand that THING! I feel like I'm the dumbest person alive when I use it and EVERY firggin time it does something different - I swear it has a mind of its own - either that or they require pre-requisites before purchasing...

nothing is wrong with them, I think we just use the Harmony one because it's 'cooler' - but I hate how its so technical, the only cool thing about it is the novelty of having a touch screen remote, other than that it's annoying.
