Topic: Exploding Mosquitoes?

At work, we were discussing biting insects, and a colleague asked if we'd ever heard this story about mosquitoes.

So the story goes: if a mosquito is biting you, pinch the flesh below the point where it's sticking its proboscis in. The supposed result is the mosquito can't withdraw, but it can't stop its sucking reflex either, and consequently it will burst its guts.

Nobody else had heard of it and we all cracked up laughing at the idea. It's certainly implausible IMO.

Has anyone else ever heard this (or something remotely like it)?

I have seen it happen .. and it was done by flexing the muscle around where the bug has bitten

Ya Jay, I have heard of it before. Fun and I think one time, I flex and tighten the muscle, the mosquitoe seemed unable to withdraw.

I've heard of this... but I'd rather smack it quick than take the chance of it flying away with my precious blood

How many times do you actually get bitten when you know it's happening, slim to never. When I see it I just squash it and that's it but I rarely notice it, and i've got biten so many times even on my hands before without realizing the little ***** were on them stinging me, if I catch them one day :fustrated

as soon as a mosquito digs in they release an enzime that prevents the blood from clotting and thins it out so they can take it. the longer one is in u the more it'll itch, so wouldn't keeping one in u long enough for it to fill up and burst be more itchy then not at all?

the sucking action of the bug cant't stop and as you know the enzyme is local meaning it doesn't ****** through the body...

therefore it ends up sucking it back out
