Topic: WalMart DVD stampede!

Just saw this on the CNN site, at:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/South/11/....ap/index.html

Poor woman gets trampled trying to buy a $29 DVD player at a Super WalMart (yeah, bet THAT'S a great player!), ends up in the hospital, and...the company offers to put one on hold for her!

Sheesh, I don't think the brightest bulbs are working for corporate relations this holiday weekend!

It wasn't Wal Mart's fault. Although it did happen at its door step, but the damage was done by the shoppers. But one could claim that if it weren't for the super low Thanksgiving sale, people wouldn't have rushed in and it wouldn't have happened. That's like suing McDonald for their coffee been too hot.

It was a result of cold hearted shoppers who had no sympathy for a fallen woman on ground. The fact that they stepped over her body to go into a shop is beyond me.

Then again, if it were someone else, I wonder if Patricia would step over that person and rush into the store to grab that damn DVD player.

Ya Jay, I agree. This shows majority of the people are heartless and blind when it comes to materialistic items.

If there were 2 gas stations that had the same gas (ie Petro, Sunoco, or whatever you use), and one of them was lower in price than the other.....which would you go to?

I thought so.

It was an example.......he was commenting on how people were reacting to materialistic things, as if he wasn't included in this group.

We are ALL materialistic to a point.

It doesn't matter if it was a DVD player or not. It was the people that did what they did, and not the DVD's price.

I remember when the Cabbage Patch Dolls first came out, and then later the Tickle Me Elmo dolls (just to name 2 examples). People were going nuts over these things in the store......fighting, shoving......alll for what? A doll.

Like I said, it could have been anything that caused this to happen.

BTW, were you there when TCC gave out the free mags, car wash coupons, and $10 vouchures for gas? (yeah, i know, not the same thing, but you get my point)

Well quite frankly, last night the gas was considered cheap, there were 2 gas stations one was like a couple of cents lower than the other with a long line up .. what i did was drive-in the gas station that was a cent more with bearly any line up if that answers your question..

thought wrong...

Yes we are all materialistic to a point as we live in a materialistic world, but when do you draw the line?

and about the gas thing.. i never end up waiting.. my time is more valuable then a couple of cents... but thats just me.. if it were out of convenience..ie .. that line up was next to nothing then sure i'll go for it, but that would be a different story..
