TV guys... edumicate me
I know there have been threads before about TV's and home theatre systems, but my questions are about the different types of televisions available today. LCD, DLP, Plasma, etc.
I currently have a 47" Panasonic rear projection HDTV TV. I love it actually. The picture when watching DVDs is perfect, it doesn't look blurry like some rear projections do and it has tons of useful features (PIP, search, many inouts, etc).
BUT, BUT, BUT...
It's a very large TV. The screen size ins't the problem, but the cabinet is very tall and deep, like it was designed to fit in a corner or a wall unit. My new home I'm waiting to be built is very open concept and there really is no where to put my big TV.
So I have very easily talked the wife into a new TV, but I don't know alot about the different types out there. They are physically smaller, but with the same screen size and thus pefect for our needs.
I'm mainly looking at under $3000 and around 40-47".
LCD, DLP, Plasma what's the difference?
What is better and for what reasons?
Any recommendations?
Thx

Great info Matt. So I'm guessing these DLP ones seem to be the better TV's. I was looking at some of these.

Yeah I worked at futureshop for 3 years, LCD is great but very $$$$ for large screens, Plasma like any neon gas fades after time, and DLP is really good. My friend has a DELL DLP projector...that thing is very clear and crisp but at 300-400$ a bulb every 1100 hours can get costly.
Post a pic on ur TV $1000 is a great price.

I have the same Panny RPTV, great set, 1000 dollars is a steal!
Personally if space is a huge issue I would buy a Plasma because they have better colour reproduction compared to LCD and they're not too expensive anymore either compared to LCDs in that size (42+"). But be sure to buy a true HDTV (720p, haven't seen any 1080i/p that are decently priced), none of those EDTV sets. If you want to display it proudly, those samsung DLP pedestal TV's look really trick too. But personally I'd go plasma.

If the Panny rear projection TV is a problem for space, I can't see how a DLP is gonna be much better. They are still fairly big. You are better off getting a plasma or LCD that you can mount on the wall.

I'm still looking for differences and opinions of the different types. I'm not sold on DLP, but it seems like a good choice.

Today I picked up a Samsung 42" Plasma EDTV from East Hamilton Radio. It's a very sweet TV. The EDTV was a bit cheaper then the HDTV version, but the picture looked the same to me anyway.
