USED CAR SHOWDOWN: Maxima vs. A4

I was talking with my mom today about some used cars and she is really set on getting a used Nissan Maxima. She read something in the paper the other day about the performance and how long the car lasts. Personally, I like the A4 much better.

What do you guys think?

If i had the money, I'd get a new A4, a used Civic hatch, or some kind of BIG truck. HAHA..

Post your thoughts here.

tough decision.....i would take the maxima if it was an ES model....leather seats, white face gauges, sunroof, all the goodies, and it even has a nice engine too....i think 280 horsepower.

ask bad black si for his opinion.....he drives an audi A4.

Style and substance -- A4

Longevity and resale -- Maxima

Personally, A4 (Chipped)

Same year and mileage, the Maxima should be signifcantly cheaper.

Hahaha, I thought of getting a Maxima before I purchased my Civic. I was looking at a 95 Maxima SE for $8000, the engine is fast, its luxurious (heated seats) and the insurance is so cheap for these cars! Unfortunately, I like the civic better, hehehe.

A4 = garbage
Maxima = Nissan

I'd take the Maxima any day. Other considerations...Accord V6. Maxima speaks grown up family car, A4 says... I'm here, I'm queer... j/k no offence to anyone driving an A4. I just think they are like the BMW 3-series (excluding M3). They state that you are a young person with fat pockets and wanna show it, or an old person with not much cash and wanna look rich. Either way, it says you have no taste and just follow the crowd. I'd stay away from the A4 for reliablily issues too. Maximas don't really make a huge statement...except for wise car shopper.

I would go with the Maxima as well. Its got nice power, luxury, and good reliability (one of the best V6 engines out there). I think you will also find it cheaper to maintain than the A4, as parts for European cars are almost always more expensive than Japanese.

Chips are only good for the 1.8T. A chip does little for 2.8, much like for any other n/a car. The Maxima already has a great silky smooth engine. I don't think your mom is too concerned about performance potential, is she?

"I don't think your mom is too concerned about performance potential, is she?"
HAHA...that i don't think either..but the extra push in power would be an asset i guess.

She's pretty set on getting the Maxima..prolly not any time soon, but in the future. She was reading about the '94 Maxima (i think).

Thanks for all your input people, it's been useful so far..keep it coming if you've got more thoughts on this topic.
