Video Card

Just bought an ATI Radeon 7000 64MB AGP Video Card. Does anyone else have one or something similar?

Is there any issues with this video card? Have read some reviews and some say that the drivers that come with the card are crappy.

to tell you the truth, i personally would not buy another ATi product unless they smarten up with their driver issue.

i bought a Raage Fury Pro sometime in '00, it was ok then since that card came out for a while and compare to my 8mb ATi i had in my pc then, it's very good. although i still have some problem with some of the ATi software to run with win2k, they are not something that i was interested in anyway.

so recently, i was looking for a tv tuner card to go with my nvidia MX200 64mb, i picked ATi over other. guess what, the last driver they have for winxp, which i am using now, it's from July 5th, 2001. on the other hand, i've already upgrade my nvidia driver like 2 or 3 times already and every nvidia driver update, the frame rates goes up.

i am not sure if you know this, but i'll mention it anyway. the ATi driver are independent from card to card, so every card will have its own driver. i can't say that for the Radeon though, since i've already gave up with ATi. and the way nvidia driver works is that all of nvidia nased card share the same driver architecture. you can get more info on this at nvidia .

if i were you, i would return it if i can, though from what i read, it's not a bad card to have, just don't expect to have a driver update as often as nvidia to boost performance or solve some driver issue with a certain OS.

hope this help, good luck!

edit - i still have problem watching tv on my pc with the provided ATi software, it works like once out of every 10 times. i am not bashing their product, they are decent but compare to nvidia, i'll pick them over ATi anytime. i would also suggest looking up their website for a recent driver update and issue solved for a specific OS. it's not fun knowing it doesn't run as well as older OS or something after you've already got the card.

u can check reviews of ur card at www.tomshardware.com ..they usually do comparison tests with other cards that are in the same range....nvidia cards have slightly better chipsets than the ati cards..and they are better supported in linux for those people that dont use windows

NVIDIA over here too!

Hercules Prophet III (GeForce3) and I'm not using Hercules drivers either.. I'm using the nVidia beta drivers and upgrade whenever a new set are leaked.

Quake3 at 99fps anyone? LOL

OK

I have the ATi Radeon 64 DDR Vivo. It's one of the first Radeons released.. I am more than happy. It might be about 2-3 fps less than the GeForce Equivalent, but the fact that it has DVD acceleration is GREAT (The older Nvidia cards didn't have DVD Accel.) and also when I plug my VCR into my video card and sound card my computer becomes a FULLY FUNCTIONING TV! You use the VCR Remote to control the channels etc.. It's great. ATi has a great rep, unique drivers tweaked for each card or series of cards/chipsets(which would make it perform better, no?), AND it is a Canadian company. So why not support Canada while buying a great product? I'd stick with the Radeon.

Sorry guys, I did my grade ten Enriched Business class Independant Study on ATi, so I'm kinda pro ATi.
