VOIP/Broadband Home Phones

So if anybody using them now? Apparently you can save alot of money if you have one of these. Primus, Bell, Rogers..literally everybody is offering some all inclusive packages at under $50 a month that includes long distance for Canada and US also..

I am thinking of converting my land line to these. Any thoughts?

I'm switching to Skype in a few weeks. $15 for unlimited calling to Canada and US for the year is an amazing price. Can't get a Skype-In # here yet sadly.

ya that seems like it would be a problem, but if you think about it, the rare times your internet doesn't work, you can just use your cellphone...

Long Distance call just use msn or yahoo or something, cam on and talk on mic simple, but both side needs high speed to have a good connection

Couple ways arounds. At least with rogers like Matt said they have battery backups in the modems @ the house, and they also have battery backups at the nodes where they distribute the cable from. If there is a major power outage you wont lose your phone service via VOIP with rogers, so it acts the same way as bell does.

Also rogers is good because the phone portion has dedicated priority, so even if your net connection goes down, theres a good chance your phone line will work still, unless someone physically cut your phone line.

With Vonage and other services that just use your highspeed, you can set it up to forward calls in the even vonage goes down or your cable goes out.
