John Hutchinson, who owns the Dyconia Resort, says the fire may actually help the town spruce up the beachfront strip, where many of the structures were built in the 1930s and 40s.
“Everything was outdated there, so when insurance pays, they’ll have to rebuild and it’ll be nice stores going in there,” he said.
“It’s the same things that everybody is selling — T-shirts, bikinis, that type of thing,” said Hutchinson.

Developers plan huge waterfront development for Wasaga Beach
Wasaga Beach, ON
Wasaga Beach is getting a new look. A piece of property that started off as an ice cream parlour almost 20 years ago will blossom into a $350M development.
The 10-hectare vision of Dov and Armand Levy, two entrepreneurial brothers who own Beachfront Developments, includes seven hotels, condos, shops, 10 themed restaurants, bistros, a conference facility and a spa. The world’s longest freshwater beach will also have its famed downtown strip ripped out and replaced by a boardwalk. Beachfront Developments is also planning Blue Planet, an extensive theme park offering year-round sports. Connected to this park will be a 400,000-square-foot mall. Parking for 8,000 cars will be situated three kilometres away and connected to the facility by monorail.

IMO they're gonna ruin the place. It's gonna end up just like everywhere else. A cookie cutter strip just like everywhere else. If I wanted to go see a bunch condos and crap I'd take a walk downtown. what are they gonna do next there, build a walmart super-centre?

ok, but do you know half the problems they have in Wasaga right now? Talk to someone who lives there and you'll see. It's like thugs from the GTA drive up there on the weekend to rob people and go home.
My sister has told me a lot of stories. If they got rid of the **** they have on the strip now at least it would help change that.
