Looks aside...this car did handle really well...god bless rear wheel drive and you gotta love the Turbo
Yeah I'll admit that it brought the early 80's Euro look to Canada.
Must have been that two tier spoiler thingy it had and the fact that it was hatchy looking (Saab like)...for sure one of the best cars to roll off the Ford assembly line and it wasn't tha expensive either.
I just don't like the look of it - personal opinion.

That thing's clutch is tighter then your 8 years old sister little ***** and the distance between 1st and 2nd gear is at least 10 inches.
You conquer that car, you can conquer any.

I used to work at the Toronto Auto Auction part time driving cars in and out of the Bidding Blocks, so one day my manager told me to go get one of the Sunfires from storage and bring it to the inspection station...meanwhile i didnt know it was standard so, that was my first car i drove standard on...I pretty much learned how to drive stick at the Auction...I also was bet that i couldnt get a 97 Cavalier z24 moving from a 4th gear start...I did but damn that Clutch smelled bad...haha

Merkur XR4ti , i used to have one, great car, lots of options, thatscar has potential , and if tuned properly can run low 13's
It was Import from West Germany at the time in 1985 first year, 1989 last year, parts are a little bitchy to get ,and they are pricy, its no Ford Ford, its Ford of Germany , way better Craftsmanship and quility
some of the old t-birds had the same 2.3 Turbo engine , wich produces like 170hp , and lots of torque
If i could find another one, i'd buy it in a flash
i know its not an attractive car, but it sure drives and perfroms Great

I learned on a 1985 Hyundai Pony GL 4 door...the best 40 bucks I ever spent...LOL
Image this, I once fit 14 people including myself in this thing..LOL...possible? You better believe it!!! LOL Notice that in the pic, it has no windshield...well, it smashed to pieces when I went clubing one night and the hood popped open on the highway while I was going about 90 km/h and smashed into the front windshield and shattered it...LOL...I didn't say it was a good car..only that it taught me stick and at least lasted for 2 winter seasons in highschool...it also taught me about cars...When I bought it, I took the engine apart and reassembled it...only 6 screws I couldn't find places for were left.....LOL...
