often heard of the terms 'modded' or 'chipped' ps2. just wondering what the difference is from say, a "stock" ps2?

going to be looking for one soon so i wanna make sure i get a good one...

Fristly modded ps2 means its a ps2 that cna play burnt cds/games. A chipped ps2 is a ps2 that has been opened up and has a chip in it, that allows the laser to read burnt cds. I also believe theres a plug in hack, ive just haven't seen it!

ya they have both... one you solder in somewhere on the circuit board... and the other plugs into the back where a game shark would plug into

I don't hav a modded ps2, but i don't think it would be able to.

i dont know how all that coding works and all that but i know an xbox can be chipped or something and can play burned dvds

Well my personal opinon on this matter......."STOCK PS2's" tend to outlast the modded ones by far....this is proven by the first PSX that came out....and the first couple of millions to get modded all failed and stopped working about about a year...or just lost performance in someway ....weather it be....poor video transmision quality over time etc. . poor sound.....yadadada....ur always safe with electronics keepin it how it is....unless it'z a good source of information yadadada....BLAH!....bascially i say keep it stock....cause u'll never run into problems of any kind...and if u do.....manufactor warntee is still good!...and what games are dropping in price in anyway greatest hits range form 19-30 dollars......give games a year and there urs at the low price...or find friends who sell games that are not burned...

Still, hes raised good points about "Stock" PS2. Wait for them to hit Greatest hits, and your spending 30 bucks for a great game!

if you consider how many games you can get for the price of the blank disk its well worth modding a ps2... or any system for that matter.... if it breaks you can always sell it on ebay

haha sell it on ebay..oh man....that'z the way to do it now a days...haha honestly...lol "BROKEN...I KNOW WHAT I'LL DO...EBAY!!!" ..... but sticking back with the topic.....ur better off not modding the PS2...unless u have the money to buy a new one....if something should ever happen.....
