Yeah, but it's not as high as it used to be, by the time i hit my 30's i think 100K will be very attainable...

no, that's just business as usual. talk about bad decisions, i'm still driving a civic.

haha

i'm making decent money for the time being.. more would be better.. but i'm working more towards experience now.. i have tons.. but in terms of running the show... in a few months.. i'll be looking at 2 years of being at the top of the IT chain at a medium sized company.

i have absolutely zero savings. all my money that i would normally save is goign to go into real estate and/or guns.

i figure even though real estate is a bit of a gamble, so is the stock market (without inside information - but you can always keep that casual anyway). worst case scenrio is i end up living in my forest hunting my food and dancing around a fire like a tribal warrior. that's not too bad.

Ok, most of you guys are putting good figures up, some are just gay and trying to act big, if you look at the stats the average canadian income is $33,000 a year, so if you are making 100 by 30 good on ya, you must be doing something right. When you come out of university you don't make amazing money, for my feild (accounting) you make 40 out of school, and have to go through 3 years of on the job training then do you exams, then if you are LUCKY you make 80-100 per year. and this is considered one of the best jobs you can get. So to all you guys saying that you can not live on less than 150+ per year rember this is a civic forum, not bmw m5 or porche, get off it.

Dennis, most people here have civics for summer cars..... I myself for example, use a countach for a winter beater.

apparantly york graduates make $36K on average their first year out of school. I also had 5-6 years experience which changed things for me. but the company chose to mention that during negotiations with me.

80-100 is for cma, ca, etc?

Dennis, I agree with you. I think 99% of the people I know make under 100k. The few people I do know that make more, a doctor, upper management, a few nurse friends of the wife, work their asses off earn that much. Some of you make it seem so easy to make a few hundred k's a year. I think unless you are a professional like a doctor, lawyer, mad scientist or the owner of a business that makes good cash, you won't be making 6 figures anytime soon.

I think we should add to this thread, what do you do, or expect to do to make these large sums of money.

I have a Governemnt job that dosn't pay that well (under 50k's), but awesome benefits and plenty of time off. I'd like to go back to school for something in the Medical field.

I donno where some of you guys are getting your numbers from but i think a reality check is in order. First off if u can get out of school and find a job you should consider yourself lucky. Better yet that you are going to be making 50K, 80K+ right away is simply a joke. Unless you have upwards of 10yrs of education and thus probally tens of thousands of dollars of debt. Secondly your own business is all well and good if you have the capital to back it but until then get in the rat race with everyone else n take the 40k check less 37% tax for a few years. Keep fighting and make your money work for you, not you work for it. Financial freedom is enough money. Meh.

maybe that's why so many people here are still driving civics cuz they all believe that 6 figures is unattainable...

the question wasn't what's the average income, or what would you like to make..

the question was what do you think good money is.

the majority of people do not make (what is in my opinion) good money.

I'm still in unversity and according to your figures I am making more than the average canadian, which is a trend i plan on keeping. I think 150K is a very attainable goal, the question is what do you want to do to reach your goal? Sacrifices have to be made along the way, many people would love to make 150K a year but sit on their asses and work 9-5.... working 9 - 5 won't net you 150K a year. period. Unless you own your own business, and even then finding capital is possible, not easy, but possible.

As much as I love my civic, I don't plan on driving a civic forever, but as a student I think it's a decent car, especially considering some students don't even have a car, so saying that cuz i have a civic i'm not gonna make big $$ is illogical. And even if i made alot of money I'd probably still rock a civic cuz i like the car, why not have a civic that i can play around with and build up to be a 10s car, along with an M5? noone said you can't have a civic when you make good money. I know a few people that make good money and still have a civic.

To be honest with you I think the reason lots of people struggle getting a job after they finish school is cuz they waste their 4 years away not having a care in the world, gaining no experience and not making any contacts. I already have two possible jobs lined up for when i finish school next year, and that's without having even applied or sending out resumes, life is what you make it.

If you think making 100K is unrealistic, then you will most likely prove yourself right. It's called a self fulfilling prophecy. If you think it is realistic, you have to get your a** in gear and make a plan as to how you are going to reach your goal.

oh and to be honest, you can be making millions a year and still be having cash flow problems, that has to do with how you budget and spend. Tons of athletes end up bankrupt once their career is over cuz they didnt' save up enough while they were playing their sport or whatever...

Some people can live comfortably off 30K. It's all about living within your means and not getting yourself into debt.

I partly agree with your statement. I know first hand of firm Directors who work 9-5 (okay not 9-5, but 8-4:30), and take home roughly $300 000 a year.

If you want the bling, you're going to have to work your *** off to receive it. Otherwise, keep dreaming! That said, I better see some serious bling after 7 years of post secondary schooling. EDIT, not right away OBVIOUSLY, but it better be there within 10 years of graduating.

Alex you are living in a f@cking pipe dream if you think that's the targets.
and I am sorry but unfortunately so is the rest individuals that think they'll be living large within a year of graduating. I have to talk about this one in particular

Yes where do I sign this guy up? He can't even use proper grammar and yet he is still delusional enough to think he's worth 100K...sorry that's take home...so he means a salary of 200k.....hope you have a high self esteem to get you through the rough patch of not having a job...well...for pretty much all your life.

Unless you are slingin drugs or something....How about proving yourself first.
