When are the going to demolish these corvettes?
I'm not too sure if you guys have been talking about this but now that they have 2 1/2 corvettes that were caught so called "street racing", when are they going to demolish those ones?
I'd like to see that on the news. Crush away! They looked like C5's.
Oh wait, or are you only going to crush HONDAs??

The trials for the drivers of the Corvettes haven't even been scheduled yet. Don't you think that you're just a little early with your bleating?

I bet if it was a flashy civic and another CRX it would be a car patty by now. Forget the courts.
It was sad to see the CRX demolished. That's just wrong.

The Hondas were crushed only after the trials of their drivers ended in conviction.

And every time I am driving it is the damn Minivans that are teh biggest problems, speeding and weaving. Even after there are convictions in these cases the seized cars will not be destroyed they most likely will be auctioned off.

And the cops have attributed those deaths by Mercedes and Porsches to suspected street racing. That pretty much demolishes your assertion that the cops thinks it's only Hondas involved. Having said that though, it's far more likely that a modified Honda or other compact will be involved in street racing than a Mercedes. Young males are more likely to be able to afford an inexpensive car than they are an expensive one.
Who cares what they do with the cars? Either way they have been seized and taken out of the hands of their former owners. It makes far more economic sense to auction off a Mercedes and use the proceeds for victim services than it does to crush it. How much are you realistically going to get for a 15-year-old modified Honda that's been sitting in an impound yard for the two years or so it takes to go through trial?

If they are going to go about destroying street racing cars, be consistant. Don't sit there defending this because either way they got the cars off the streets. Doesn't matter what they are, some kids do have access to high end cars.

Awe hell they should make the new minimum age for a driver's licence 35 years old.
And no car should have a higher HP than 20.

Re walk looks talks, think hard about how such sayings get established. If you dress like a thug and talk like a thug and hang out with thugs, don't be surprised if people start to wonder if you are a thug yourself. You know that a modified compact or subcompact is far more likely to be driven "enthusiastically" than a bone-stock minivan. Worse, a modified car with it's fart-can exhaust, big rack wing on the back, flashing nipple lights and booming sound system is going to be noticed doing it.
In any case, that's irrelevant to the discussion. The cars that were destroyed were seized for being caught street racing, not for being modded in bad taste. Two Corvettes, three Mercedes and one Porsche have also been seized in the last few months over their involvement in fatal street racing crashes, as well as two Civics involved in the Stoufville fatal street racing crash. It's not just Hondas being seized.
I don't care what they do with the cars after the drivers are convicted, so long as they seize them consistently no matter what kind of car is involved.
If they auction off the car and use the proceeds for victim services, fine. If they donate the cars to local fire and rescue departments to practice their jaws-of-life, firefighting, and extrication skills, fine. Even if they give them to local high schools for use in teaching auto classes, fine. And if some get crushed in a publicity stunt, that's quite alright with me too. The cars they seize can serve a wide variety of end purposes.
Whether some get destroyed and some don't ultimately makes no difference as long as the car is forfeit and taken from the convicted driver.

Why is it irrelevent to the topic. The qoute was made due to street racing? We are talking about street racing and the questions was, if the corvettes are being crushed or not. This is the topic.
We care what they do with the cars Sorry, but this is a civic board and I am not sure if you own one or not, I suspect you don't, we may take this a little more personal than you do. The fact that they don't crush the cars as a sign to ALL street racers, not just low budget souped up cars would be to me, some sort of profiling on all civics and other low end cars.
The more likely on the driven comment is crap. I drive to work everyday and most of the close calls I have with "enthusiastic" drivers are everyday non modded cars, so if you are going to put out Statistics, please have some documents stating those facts.

If they were somehow strictly profiling Civics as being street racers, then they would not have seized the high end cars I mentioned for street racing.
The sign to ALL street racers is that "you will lose your car". Not that it might be crushed, not that it might be disposed of in some other way, but that "you will LOSE your car". Once you've lost your car, anything that happnes to that car afterwards is really quite meaningless as far as you are concerned.
Re your drive to work, think of the demographics of the work commute. Try again and see what driving behaviour is like at night when young people are more likely to be out in their cars.

Hmmmmm sell the car for auction to charity, does this mean that another racer won't get the car?
There is a lot of street racing going on, modded riced out cars and the plain janes.
To me you assume a lot as to what people see and don't see, and give the impression that you have seen it all or have some type of information that we don't.

Another thing, lets forget that they are Civics that were crushed, what was the point or reason for crushing them? If it's a matter of getting the cars off the street for street racing, why were cars A and B crushed?

would this discussion be happening if it was cavaliers that were crushed?
and do we really know how many actuall seized street racing cars are crushed...happens to be this time they were done on public tv

I would like a response from Marker on why he thinks the cars were crushed and shown publically in pretty much all the papers and the news. Obviously to make a point, so..............what is it?
Just to let you know, it's not just young people that feel this way about how this was handled, been a discussion at work with various 40 somthing people that feel the same as we about the Corvettes that have been taken in and this whole deciding who is and who isn't a street racer.

from what i've seen on other boards and talking to people at the office... ya.. its not just civic owners that are concerned....
