I was just wondering if anyone could help me with finding this ingredient for some thai food tonight. I'm going to be heading over to Kensington/Chinatown after work to try and pick some up and I'd like to get it done quickly so hopefully someone will be able to answer some of my questions.

I'm thinking the Jamaican/Caribbean store would have it but do you think I'd be able to find it in the chinese grocery stores on Spadina? Do any of them cater to thai cooking? Or does it get used in Chinese cooking too? Would there be another name for it?

any west indian place or asian grocery should have it...tamarind ***** are so damn good!!!

Where area you from? You can find it a any Indian Grocery store.

Dont but the stuff in the jar, buy the stuffin the package and just make your own paste by adding warm water. It makes an excellent base for a marinade

Thanks everyone. I figured that it would be at the Jamaican store and now I'm thinking I need some Pick-a-Peppa and Matouk's sauces so I might just head there.

you will find it for sure in any iranian shop. its called TAMREH HINDI.
