I believe it's a TA strike. Not Professor strike. But ya, the TA's are threatening to strike.

the York TAs ain't making enough? haha..... TA won't be their job for life right? i thought most TAs are grad students working on their master or phd... and might be the 4th year senior student... not too sure about the york structure.....

do the prof select and hire the TA at york or its the board?

coz i know at U of T, the prof involves in the selection of TAs, and its a 1-year term thing only... so if yo'ure a bad TA this year, you're out next.......

i believe profs don't give a damn about TAs.. if they strike, the prof can always do the marking themselves or hire another TA (just dunno if that's a possible scenario for york?)

thats what I originally thought.....but I think its more than that....at UOIT they are all over the place, some are grad students, some are people who have been in the industry for years, and stuff like that, not just recent students...

in any event, they all have atleast a BA, if not an MA. so they can get a real job in the private/public sector if they want. holding a students education HOSTAGE should not be allowed, especially with the cost of school so high.

there was a TA strike when I was there. I had to go drop off an assignment.. the TTC stopped across the street.. not on the campus itself..... i dressed up as columbine as i could... combat boots.. all black.. trenchcoat.. and i had a shaved head with a braided goatee... 2 TAs stepped in front of me and moved aside in time to not even affect my walking speed. just stare 'em in the eye witout blinking

if there is a strike, you have lots of rights.

you also have the ability to tell both sides to f.ck off.

i picked and chose what was best for me.. (what to hand in and what to write).. use the system to accomplish what is best for you.

TAs are anybody anyways... i was just surprise how there can be a TA strike since i never knew there's a union for TAs hahaha... coz my prof said he fired a TA once coz the TA was really f*ck up! hahaha.........

well this is how it goes.... the prof caught the TA not following his guideline or criteria in the marking scheme and the TA was mroe in favor of certain students (u know what i mean).... it was thought to be a coincidence at first, the prof remark for those students and their marks all went up by a large margin... later in antoher test... same situation, so the prof remark the whole class and found out the higher mark students deserve lower and the lower marks student deserves higher...... so yeah... the prof end up talking to the TA and fire the **** outta him...

any how... i think TAs are useless most of the case... prof should host tutorials themselve and give more important examples....
