he means...be his friend down there...chat him up, slap him high fives, tip him well...then be like "yo essay, you know where I can get the hook up on some rum for a good price?" while you slip him the "I love Joonya T" shirt with a canadian flag on it...then biggity bam, he tells you a price u haggle him a bit...get the goods, skip back to your room like a little girl and giggle with your stash

no, don't buy it from the bartender, they will refill it with crap rum sometimes... like if you end up going to a cabaret in havana and buy a bottle.. ask for it to come sealed to your table....

the black market in cuba is insane... it's 6 cucs instead of 3.3 cucs... i would rather pay and get good stuff guaranteed... i get 2 bottles of 7 year rum.. usually at the airport... if i have any cucs left i buy stuff with that and use the rest on my creditcard (with cigars)

i buy single cigars from outside the hotel cigar shops.. and the box at the airport cause i rather keep it sealed and not thinking about storing it while i'm on vacation

One thing I just remembered...

When were were horse back riding on the beach these guys came up to us trying to sell us huge conch shells for cheap, we were considering it- I liked them, they kept following us and bugging us, our tour guide yelled at them and told them to go away... at the time I had no idea what was going on, a women who was on the tour with us told us that it's illegal to buy them and take them out of the country.

So just a heads up...

Also, if your on the beach early in the morning, or I guess they can come at any time, people will try and sell you cigars, dont buy those either, even if they tell you they are real and show you papers...

their are 3 major stores for purchasing cigars in the city of varadero. I find that most of the time at least one of them will have a gentleman doing fresh hand rolls .......You will also find that they do broing people in to the different hotels sometiems as well. If you are buying boxed cigars from a proper location they will ask to see your passport especially if paying with a credit card..but normally will ask for it anyways. they will also copy down all serial numbers off the boxes. My father has a collection of over 50 boxes and visits cuba regularly for a quality smoke ...

try and see what you like before you buy.. i prefer montecristo to cohiba in terms of buying a box...

but robusto is my fav.. just takes too long to smoke anywhere buy on vacation or a cottage....
