Why do some people have things against other cars?

I for one am open to almost any other car out there, and like to hear/and see others doing up their rides, but lately I have seen alot of people putting down other cars?

For example, I go into the topic where there discussing about a hyundai accent that was going pretty fast, and someone mentioned it had a turbo in it, then the person comes back with a comment about "why would you put a turbo in an accent"

Well why would you put a turbo on a civic? or cavalier, or any other car out there?

Well, my point is, why do some people have this image that because its not a civic, or a "cool" car, why spend money on it? I think this is a dumb attitude because everyone has their own likes and dislike and no car is worse than the other, and all of them deserve to be modded in any way that the owner wants to.

Im done venting.

you made some good points but i dont agree with the above comment. some cars are better than others. and i dont just been subjectively either. some cars are just built better than others as far as quality of workmanship and quality of parts.

i do agree that any owner has the right to do whatever they wish to their own car. but if they start doing stupid "ricey" stuff then they should be prepared to be laughed at.

I totally agree about the rice thing, but if someone wants to turbo a Kia or Accent, or even Daewoo for that matter and has the cash and does it right, enough respect to them.

What's the point of doing up some **** car...even after it's fully done up, it's still ****.

what's the point of that?

no one wants to be seen driving around in a PIECE..

now that's just IMO.

Good point! But still everyone's different and has different opinions, maybe they like their crappy car for some reason. Or think they are cool putting a turbo on it.

People just shouldn't care!! If you have to....just look and laugh to yourself and then forget about it.

Porsche drivers could say the same thing. Pull up to the stop light next to you and say "What is that guy thinking trying to modify that piece of crap honda"

How would you feel then?

im a VW enthusiast and even though my family member drives a accord vtec i have respect for the work that honda put in it.
Well the porsche drivers cant say anything about my friends ride he just got a APR turbo on his 1.8T he could smoke a porsche 1/4 mile maybe but top speed he might not.
Also people have these pics on their avatar showing a boy pissing on the VW sign to tell you the truth Dubbers came out with that way before with a character called gilbert i believe pissing on VTEC

Thats what Im trying to say.

I respect everybodies car out there, I only get pissed off if the owner starts talking trash about me or my car, then I will get defensive, but even if the person has riced out there ride, they could be the nicest person you will meat, but not have the same taste in mods as you.

i have respect for anyone who is into the car scene, being honda , vw, chevy, kia, or daewoo... they are all sharing the same love for cars as we do here, I dont drive a civic, so does that make me any less of a enthusiast??

there is a guy out here who has a suzuki swift, this car is awesome, i would say it is right up there wiht some of the civics around here, he did an amazing job, so its not a honda, sometimes its nice to see soemthing other then hondas at shows, I understand civic is the easist and cheapest platform to start with, but dont bash peeps cause they dont have one... take a look at what they have done, and open your eyes, there is some really cool cars out there... old hot rods, new cars, and even some cool hyundias.

I give anyone who mods thier car a thumbs up... they are enjoying them selves and expressing themselves, your car is like your clothes, it shows who you are... its a individual expression, some people dont like how ive done my car, buti do.. and thats all that matters.

Well said man, thats exactly how I feel too.

Some of the cars my dad shows me at old classic car shows they have at CT sometimes look awesome, even though there boats, the guys there spent lots of time and money on them, and they look real good, and I give them lots of respect for that.

its not the issue of how the car is modded, its the attitude of the owners and who's looking at the car. and about the rice thing, im sick and tired of reading/hearing about it. other boards that ive been to are sick of the term rice as well but i guess other people tend to stereotype mods that they dont like as "rice". how did that "rice calling" got started anyway? its simple enough that if u dont like something then just leave it alone, u dont even have to say something like "dont buy that altezza crap" or maybe "ractive is **** so dont buy that piece of crap". and havent u guys noticed that if somebody bashes a "non-honda" vehicle some of us just bashes it too? but when someone got beef on hondas some of us just couldnt handle it and everything seem to get carried away.
my .02 cents

to me it's just a thing about quality, have you ever read reports on kia's or daewoos? they have horrible crash ratings, i don't think kia's even come with ABS! for a 5 km/hr test crash the average kia had like 7,000 dollars of damage! ?!?! for 5km/hr, that's like cardboard! they don't keep their value well, they're reliability is poor, etc.... honda and BMW are a totall different class, you can't even begin to compare and M3 with a civic. spend that same $74000 on a civic and i bet a million dollars that you'll kill any stock M3 out there! now kia and a civic, they compete in the same class, and look at the difference in quality? i don't hate on domestic cars, or 'old boats' as you said, those old boats are the cars these old guys had when they were growing up, to them they're like our civics, but turboing a kia or a daewoo? it's just a total waste of money, a piece of sh*t is a piece of sh*t no matter how you dress it up or what mods you add on to it, doesn't it strike you odd that you can buy a brand new car for like 13,000? it's very wrong in my books,

as far as rice, i dunno i just think mods that are generally put on by people who don't really like cars and just want the appearance of it started to be called rice, when car enthusiasts first got altezzas it wasn't rice, but now that everyone and their brother has it some people call it rice, it's all personal taste, if someone wants to call my car rice, then go ahead, all that matters to me is that i like it, and i don't mind being seen behind the wheel of my car, some cars i wouldn't be caught dead in the trunk of, but again that's personal taste. And as far as domestics go, they're not my favourites but i don't bash them, because they're still alright cars, in my mind they dont' have anywhere near the reliability of a honda or toyota, and not near the refinement and quality of any of the german cars, but they're still decent cars.... especially when compared with kia, and daewoo..... my old computer monitor was made by daewoo.... in my mind someone that stops making computer monitors and starts making cars? too questionable for me.... (plus the monitor sux!)

phew, that's the end of my rant..... that was a long one!

I was gonna do an accent for SCCA sanctioned racing and Solo II. It has the biggest time advantage over other cars (handicap) so if you are a consistent driver on really good rubbers, with such a light car, you can really make a name for yourself. Instead, I bought a 85 Suzuki Samurai for some off roading. I like variety, and I think every car has room for improvment. As long as it's not a car that barely runs, but has side markers and LED washer nozzles...then it's gay. But any car is good shape that's kept clean, I like. Even when stock. My buddy has a Protege, and it was stock for like 2 years, but it was always so clean, I could not help but admire it. Now it's lowered and has 17s on it, so it's even nicer, but it's still soooo clean. I like that!
