Angry This is why esso SUCKS

I was in burlington in the midst of the power shortages and I finally have yet another reason to hate esso.. other then it's the dirtiest gas in ontario... If there was an esso station and another gas station across the street it was the same price... if there was an esso by itself it was a minimum for 6cents per litre higher.... but the places where there was a petro or something by itself the station was at the same prices as everyone else....

i heard on the radio that there were reports of some stations selling gas at up to 99 cents/litre!! that's such bullshit, we should compile a list of all the gas stations that gouged their prices and boycott them.

Esso Loses Fight to Stifle Freedom of Speech
March 7, 2003

A French judge ruled Wednesday that Stop Esso campaigners can continue using the spoof logo, which replaces the double S in Esso to read: E$$O. The decision overturns the earlier lower court ruling.

The court's statement is “an important victory for free speech on the internet, a victory for the climate, and evidence that Esso’s strategy to silence critics using the courts was futile,” said Greenpeace in a statement.

In May 2001, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and others launched the global Stop Esso campaign. Their goal is to stop Exxon Mobil, the oil giant that owns both Esso and Imperial Oil, from interfering with international action to address climate change. The Stop E$$O logo has played a major role in popularizing their campaign.

Campaigners are now free to use the StopE$$O logo to comment on Esso’s dirty work – work that includes doing what ever it can to keep the US hooked on oil. Greenpeace is also linking Esso to America's war plans; according to analysts at Deutsche Bank, ExxonMobil is a company that would benefit most from a “regime change’ in Iraq.

To step up their boycott, Greenpeace is launching a new international campaign against ExxonMobil. Send in a photo of yourself holding one of several anti-Esso speech bubbles: “E$$O, you won’t see this face again,” “You suck,” “Global Warming Villain,” and “I won’t buy E$$O.” Once Greenpeace has a pile of pics, they’ll ship them off to Exxon Mobil and Imperial Oil.

anybody who reads that and still fills up at esso is basically the cause for the recent war in iraq...

you'll need a pdf reader like adobe to see this link but its a good thing to print out and post up at your local esso station

boycott E$$O

I never really paid much attention to ESSO but I'll tell you this much.............I WILL NEVER, AND I MEAN NEVER, GET GAS AT PETRO. This is supposed to be a Canadian company yet it seems to always the first to jack prices, and last to lower them. I'm not saying that that is always the case, but the majority of the time it is.
***** PETRO!!!!

Although it is still part of a chain, I think that the station owners still have some say over the matter of when they raise the prices.

I say this b/c the Petro Canada near me tends to raise the prices a few hours after everyone else in my area does.

i know at sunoco the managers have no say in gas prices.... when i worked there we would get a call from head office and they would inform us of price changes.... we would also have to boot around and check local gas prices....

when i started my shift i would quote like 5 cents lower then it was then by lunch time our gas would drop too .... hahaha cheap gas rules

Funny thing is the stations that were charging 99.9 probably would have charged even more, but the signs don't have enough room to go any higher.

Why buy Esso anyways, when Sunoco, Shell, and Petro Can are totally sweet... their gas stations are cleaner, newer, and have better gas.

I would have to agree that the managers have "some say". I live on one side of the 401 and have to pass two PETRO's before I get to work, and there has only been a handful of occasions where both had the same price.

They have NO say at all... the call comes in from an automated system, you write down the confirmation number the automated voice gives you along with the prices. You go in the computer and change the prices. Any discrepancy between the two will net you an audit. You can appeal a price change to match the prices of a close-by gas station, but why would you do that... it means you won't be as busy and can spend your time reading auto trader

I have friends that work at different gas stations and they seem to have different methods of changing prices. Some get a call, others were told to match the station across the street then take off .02 of a cent, so that they were always lower. If it were to go even lower, they would get a call. Weird, but that's how they do it. I also think that it has alot to do with location. The closer to the highway or the farther in the boonies, the higher the price, at least that's what it seems.
